I got two cherry Monitor 70s on the Newegg sale a couple weeks ago, and I just ordered a Yamaha RX-V3900 from Audioholics. The guy I talked to from Audioholics said the receiver would be powerful enough to drive the M70s, but I was just wanting some additional input.

The receiver is 140 watts per channel.

The M70s are 20-275 watts. What does that actually mean? What would be the ideal amount to drive these? I'm guessing my old Yamaha two channel stereo receiver at 50 watts per channel wouldn't drive these, but 20-275 is a huge range...

Thanks for any input.

I used the Yamaha RX V1900 to drive some monitor 60's and it sounded really nice. It was 130wpc and they especially sounded great on pure direct 2 channel. The 20-275 is the amount of CLEAN power you can send to your speaker. More power never hurts and i'm sure a separate amp could make them sound better, but the 3900 should drive them with ease.
