Pair of Polk S6's for $40. Should I jump on it?

Anyone ever hear these vintage Polks? Just saw them on CL in excellent condition. Comes with some cheesy rack stereo system. Was wondering if I should go snag 'em.

Decent drivers, take it or leave it cabinets.

Check out Insignia speakers from Best buy. They're a bargain at 40$ and they go for sale a lot on ebay.

A lot of people also make modifications to the speakers to enhance their performance such as making them magnetically shielded

I recently picked up a pair of S8. They are very decent sounding speakers especially considering that they were Polk's more value oriented product. They have very good bass and the mids and highs are very pleasant. They image fairly well but can't compare to my mod'd RTA11TL. The cabinets are very solid except for the plastic border piece where the grill attaches.

I say that for $40 the S6 is a no brainer, go for it. If you don't like them then you can resell them for at least as much or part them out. The MW8000 mid-woofer is no longer stocked by Polk and there is some demand. But if you are looking for a very good sounding budget system, you will not be disappointed.

You can check with Polk Audio parts (customer service) but I don't think they have the MW8000 available anymore. They do have the SL-5000 tweeters. Keep an eye on the For Sale section, post in the Wanted and keep an eye on EB.

I am not aware of any aftermarket that will be a suitable replacement acoustically, electrically and physically. I believe it is an odd size (7").

I see there are a couple MW8002 on EB. Might check with Polk CS to see if these would be a suitable replacement.
