Hi ,

I am going to purchase Polk Speakers to build my home theater.
I am planning on bookshel for front left & right speakers, one center channel , one subwoofer and 2 back in ceiling spekaers. I have a prewiring at ceiling in back only. ( Wife not ok have visible wires for back sorround spekaers, so just have back sorround in ceiling)

I am not looking for any tower/floorstanding speakers apart from the subwoofer.

This is for My great room which is 18 feet by 18.5 feet.

For decent entry level 5.1 home theater what combination of speakers should I purchase? I may later upgrade to 7.1 .

I am thinking like -

1 Center channel - CS10

2 front left & right bookshelf spekaers - T15

2 in Ceiling back surround sound - RC60i

1 Subwoofer PSW100

Will these go well together ? What are other options ? in littler higher price range , if these are too entry level ? Plan to use for atleast 5+ years.

Use - Movies 60% music 40%.

My other quesition would be which would be best receiver matching ?

Appreciate your response.

Don't really need to match receivers.

I'd probably get a more powerful sub while you can and never look back!

ok. For the speakers what would you recommend ? I see some people recommending Tsi100 in other threads.

If I were you I would at least get the Tsi's and never look back. They're not as cheap but they're certainly better. I wouldn't doubt that they can dig down to where you would like to cross your sub ~80hz.

Especially for fronts, I would get more capable speakers that can dig down to have some bass. And try to get the matching center with the same tweeter to timbre match your speakers.

With that room size, I would get a pair of TSi200s and the CSi center.
For the reciever, you don't realy need much. My favorite brands are Denon and Pioneer. A Denon 1911 or Pioneer 1020 would work great. The only reason to get "bigger" ones are features.
Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

Don't forget Onkyos are nice but they run a little warm.

My honest opinion on ceiling speakers is to leave them in the store. I have listened to quite a few of them and they seem to pick up the harmonics of the ceiling structure. And sound bad. There may be some real high end stuff that sounds better and also better instalations that would work however.
For the sub, depends on budget. The Polk 505 would be the cheapest one to get. The newer DSW line seems much better.

OK, I'm a newb to this forum and have been 'polk'in around a little while. looks like alot of good info. I too am setting up a new HT. 5.1 intro system. bought some RC65i for the surrounds and am thinking of some OWM3's for the fronts. can anyone tell me if this is a bad combo or not?. Also looking for a in-wall Center channel just because of my wall configuration and TV placement (LED on wall). was told to maybe look at a TC265i for the CC. Any advice appreciated. thanks and excuse me for my 1st post.

I am also setting up a 5.1 system and am thinking of getting a pair of LSi9 speakers, a pair of LSiF surround speakers, and a LSiC center speaker. Does it make sense to invest in a DSW microPRO 3000 or 4000 subwoofer? Also, I am considering either the Onkyo TX- NR1000 or TX-NR 808, or a Denon AVR-4311C1 or 3311C1. Are any or all of these receivers compatible with the Polk speaker/subwoofer set I am building? What would be best the most cost-efficient receiver for my 5.1 system? Am a newbie..HELP!

Amazon has a PAIR or Rti4's for $149 shipped right now, I think they're definitely a step above what you've been looking at for a great price. Just something to consider. Good luck and welcome.
