In the market for a BD player, got an AVR question

So I've got an HK AVR635. The thing I'm curious about is - I know the receiver is a 7.1 receiver, but it doesn't seem to support any type of XX-HD coding. It does all kinds of Dolby and such, but I don't believe they had hit the "HD revolution" at that time.
Does anyone know how this receiver will work with a new Blu-ray player? I'm hoping things will be fine, but I do want to take advantage of actual 7.1 (If I'm going to set it up, it would be nice if it worked)
Thanks in advance

Well, I looked up your receiver and it seems you don't have HDMI inputs. Blurays are the discs that are encoded with the new Dolby TrueHD and Master DTS codecs.
If you want to keep your current receiver, I'd suggest looking for a player that does internal decoding of the new codecs and sends that signal out via analog outputs. These will then be connected to the rear left side of your receiver where it says 8CH. DIRECT INPUT.
Good on you btw for getting a receiver with pre-outs!Truck setup

Any suggestions for Blu Ray players? The issue I ran into is that I've got an HK DVD47 that I've had random problems with over the years. Actually, it had pretty much died and became unresponsive for a year or so, but it mysteriously came back to life.
The straw that broke the camels back, is that the optical port on the back is broke, so my cable pretty much just falls out if it gets touched. Normally this wouldn't be an issue - but my cat just doesnt understand when I tell him that he can go anywhere he wants, but that shelf.
P.S. Did some research, reviews. Basically looking for BD-live, streaming, wi-fi would be nice but not necessary (I've got a bridge setup for my Dish box anyways). I don't have anything 3D, so that really doesnt matter to me.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Depends if you want to go new or used, and how much you're wanting to/or willing to spend.
I just sold a Pioneer BDP-51FD, exceptional picture and sound quality for a very low price.
How long have you had your receiver? And are you using external amps to power your speakers or the internal amp in the AVR?Truck setup

Did you review the blu-ray players with analog outputs ? Plenty of decent players out there that will do what you want, but unless your ready to cough up for a new receiver, you need one with analog outputs.HT SYSTEM-

I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible? I'd hope to keep under $300-400 (which I think is too expensive as it is, but you've got to pay to play I guess)
Someday I will be amping, but for now I'm just going off the receivers power. I'm new to Polk, and just recently bought my stock into Newegg. lol - Running M70's, C2, and M40's (x4). I accidentally bought the M40's thinking they were seperates, so I ordered 2 pair. That made a dilemna I had very easy. I've been running 5.1 for my HT, but mainly due to lack of wiring options for 7.1. I did debate on buying the matching set for 7.1, since i plan on keeping these speakers around for a bit, and would hate to try to come up with a matching set 5 years down the road.
So far, I'm leaning towards the Panasonic DMP-BD85k. I've looked at some Oppos, but in my price range, I think I can do better. The Oppo 80 is decent, but seems very basic at this point in time. Actually I'm jumping the gun with this a little anyhow, seeing that my TV isn't 1080p (Hitachi 55VF820)
Almost forgot - I've had my receiver for about 4-5 years now. Unfortunately I was one of the suckers that had to pay $1200 when this first came out65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

If your tv isn't 1080p, then why are you looking at BDP's ? Your putting the cart before the horse dude.HT SYSTEM-

Even $300 can get you plenty of bluray, I sold my Pioneer for $140 and some have sworn the picture quality was as good as the Oppo BDP-83 (now replaced by the 93).

Yeah, I do realize this. But - I'm in the market right now for a DVD player, so I might as well invest in a BD player rather than buying just a stand-alone DVD.
I figure within the next year or so, my 50" in the basement will get shipped off to a lucky friends house, and my current 55" will take its place as my gaming TV. Then the new TV will take it's place and the circle of life will have made a full revolution, righting the original problem.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)
