Connection Question

I have decided to replace my stereo preamp and five channel AVR with a seven channel pre/pro. I originally intended to shop for a dirt cheap five channel amplifier to drive the speakers other than the mains, but then it occurred to me that I already own a cheap five channel amplifier in the form of the AVR. My question, therefore, is: can I connect the pre/pro outputs to the five channel analog input on the AVR without damaging any equipment? It seems to me that it shouldn't be a problem, as they are both line level, but I figured was better off asking more knowledgeable people first, just to be safe.
