When people come over to your house do they put their shoes on your coffee table?

I dont exactly have a cheap coffee table yet it attracts shoes like no bodies business.

I must admit this truly pisses me off as my coffee table was not cheap and I have even had people ask me "Does it bother you that my shoe is on your table?" "Yes it really does"

Why is this so surprising?

I dont go over to peoples houses and put my crap on their furniture and I dont expect them to do the same.

Do people just not respect furniture anymore?

Wow, never had anyone do that to my coffee table but I did have a few individuals that have put their feet up on the couch. I quickly told them to get their feet off the couch, that I like to keep my **** clean and as quickly as they put them up they took their feet off.

Don't care who it is, respect my house. Just sayin'

May be an age thing where people are use to their friends having cheap furniture...

I buy nice things if I can and my coffee table is one of my nicer pieces of furniture tipping the $300 scale.

And I have to sharpie the edges and corners of my table like every three months because of inconsiderate people...

I usually have people take their shoes off when they enter my house. The carpet is very light.

Yeah - I plan to enforce that rule once my house is done, right now the house is pretty dirty due to construction - but I try to keep it clean as possible...

Nice looking table! I switched to those with smoked glass tops and well they weren't cheap either. One thing I hate is that sometimes my guests wouldn't use coasters for either the coffee table or end tables...AND I HAD a coaster holder+coasters on the table.

I'm young myself (25), but I do take notice that it's pretty common in the younger (my) generation. People just aren't considerate anymore.

We dont have people wear shoes in the house. They can put their feet up however, as our coffee tables are IKEA. I do it at home on my parents table because they do it too, but never with shoes on. $6000 lacquer self-imported mother of pearl Korean coffee table, part of a matching set worth more than my house lol.

My first place had hardwoods, still had people take their shoes off. Don't want the kids laying and sitting on a dirty floor.

People would not be allowed in my home to do that. I made mine and it's not expensive but it is nice.

I saw people doing that on reality shows when flipping through the channels.Even oh Friends and sienfeld too. The shoes on the couch thing to. Don't the Pea-brains know how many germs are on the bottoms of their shoes???? Good grief.

Personally, if somebody is doing something in my house that I do not like I ask them to please not do that. The issue is friends can be very relaxed at my home, but since they are friends they understand if I have an issue with some action. Otherwise, they aren't friends, and problem is solved.

If someone put their shoes on my furniture I'd tell them to either get their feet off my furniture, or get the f**k out of my house. There is no need to find a nice way to tell some ignorant **** that he needs to be a decent human being.

I have a couch with built-in recliners so there is a perfect place for proping up the feet. But, no one comes in with shoes on, period. Our main carpet is a very light beige and 2 of the bedrooms carpet is almost white. All shoes are left at the door.

With the reclining couch, the coffee table sits just out of reach.

I did have a guy set a beer can on top of one of my SDA's once. I literally flew off the couch and hurdled the coffe table to get to it!

Trey, time to whip out the Sawzall and cut off a foot. I'd bet the word would get out to all your other friends faster than a wildfire.

On another matter, I don't get folks that buy light colored carpets and then won't let anyone wear shoes in the house. It's downright rude to ask guests to remove their shoes.

I'd like to see someone try to do that in MY house. I don't have a coffee table. They are welcome to put there legs up on the end table but I don't think it would be very comfortable and they'd look rather stupid.

I noticed this occurring when I got out of college and got a real job. Many of my friends were not yet used to having nice things so when they came over, they treated my new place as if it were a dorm room. This changes over time. That being said, if you put people in front of a nice television and a sweet system, then usually you have to give them something to put their feet up on. I got padded foot stools, but no shoes!

I'm in Japan, your shoes come off when you enter the door. Keeps the floors nice and clean, zero dirt or grass. Highly recommended.

Change your friends to ones without legs!

We have no coffee tables either so no issue here. If we did, no shoes on the table easy. If they are true friends they will respect what you say. Or charge them $20 each time they come in the house, if they ask why say it's to replace the table the screwed up.

WOW! It seems like you have a lot of friends who weren't raised with any manners. I hope you give them a crash course in them when they put their feet on your furniture. Hell you should establish the rule as soon as they walk through the door.

When people come over to your house do they put their shoes on your coffee table?

Everyone knows I'm an eccentric neat freak so only little kids are likely to make that mistake. Sounds like you grew up but some of your friends are treating your place like it's a college dorm. You just need to communicate the new rules and borders to them. It's better to be labeled an eccentric neat freak because the shoe on the coffee table leads to drinks on the speakers or drinks on the table san coasters. Sorry, I'm getting carried away here.

See, this is where being an **** and having no concern for "feelings" comes in handy. I will readily tell anyone, even my own parents, to knock that **** off. I typically don't have such problems because of that. Sometimes I do and people make stupid faces when they get yelled at, like no one ever yelled at them before for being themselves. Besides, I have other things to put your feet on, like ottomans, which are intended for such activities.

If you want lessons on how to be an ****, just tell me, I'll gladly pass on my wisdom! I mean, I am quite good at it and what's use of being so go at something and not being able to share it?

On the flip side, sometimes, I find, it's easier to just not have friends.

No shoes in my house either. It's not about being a neat freak either. A LONG time ago someone tried to enter my home with shoes and their shoes had dog **** on them. Even if it's not dog **** it could be mud. My kids play on my floors all the time. I walk around bare foot and then sit on my couch with my feet up either on the ottoman or the couch. If I wore my shoes inside the house and my floors became dirty then I would also be tracking that dirt to my couch and other furniture. So shoes are banned from inside the house.
