Sans the usual suspects, Cambridge 604p, Nad PP2i, MMF, etc; what phono preamps (MC and MM capable) particularly impress you under $500 (OR suitable for a $1000 level TT)?

Jolida JD9
Granted I haven't had a ton of experience but this is a nice little unit that you can tube roll, do some mods to, and it sounds great. -
Jolida with caps and good tubes is nice.

Edit: He beat me to it /\Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
Another vote for the Jolida JD-9. Put some RCA 12AX7s in there and don't look back.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but is the Jolida good the way it comes from the factory or do the mods have to be done first?TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE. -
It's good, but much better modded. Just changing the tubes like Dawgfish said goes a long way.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Bob's Devices.
Check into his work. I think he disrespected me but that's another story.
He might make you a good pre if you know what TT is going to be with what amp for a while. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
