Polk RM95 - 2010 Subwoofer recommendation? (I have choices listed)

I searched the forum and didn't see a current answer (2010) for this.

Using Polk RM95 (RM8s) alone in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup;
with a Denon AVR 891 receiver;
and noting that some forum folks tend not to like Polk Subs -- what is the currently recommended sub?

Requirements:

. I would like to have the -3db low-end as close to 20Hz as possible.

. The RM95 have a low-end range of 130Hz;
so the Sub crossover should be able to hit 130.
It seems like a lot want to top out a crossover at 95-120Hz.

. my price range is up to $499
(and all of these wobble down around that price or lower at times).


OPTIONS:

Is anyone using these successfully with the RM95 set?

Are there any other strong choices missing?


. BIC VK-12 (If getting a BIC, it would be VK12 over PA-120, H-100 or F-12).

. HSU Research VTF-3 MK3 non-Turbo Subwoofer
(Turbo is pretty ugly)

. Klipsch RW-12d

. Klipsch SUB-12 or SUB-12HG

. Polk Pro 600.
(125 Hz (-3dB) tops its Frequency response?)

. Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer
(high-end crossover 120Hz?

Look at the Epik Legend which is a 6 week wait since they are out of stock. 20-200hz +/- 3.5dbs, $499.00

I am using the PSW110 with the RM95s. I have no complaints - the 10" is a great size for a home theater setup and has great thump. And the price is worthwhile - got mine for $125.

Trying to get a Sub crossover up to 130 Hz and still go down to 20 Hz +/- 3db may be trickey. And thats cutting it close...130Hz upper on the Sub and 130 Hz lower range on the speakers...hope they reach their advertised specs. Most Subs in your price range are expected to be used with Tower Speakers or at least Bookshelf Speakers....so the 120 Hz upper cutoff.

Hi Larry -- thanks. And I understand.

That's why I asked here, to see what some good recommendations are; from folks actually using the RM95 set. I've been looking for something since early December and haven't found a decent one yet.

What would be your Sub pick for the RM95?

Bill,I can tell you that I had the RM10 Satellite speakers hooked up to a Polk PSW 505 Sub and powered by a Denon AVR 888 ( still have these in reserve ). The lower frequency range on the Satellites was 130 Hz the same as the RM95 and the sound was excellent overall. The 505 " overall " upper frequency range is listed at 160 Hz but -3db range is 120 Hz. With this combination I didn't notice a loss of any sound. So if it was me in your situation, I would get the Polk PSW-505 Sub especially since they were selling for $200 recently. It dosn't go super low but low enough for most movies and is also great for music. Its a keeper,and thats why it will be used by me in a second H/T room. You could also consider the Pro DSW 600....but at a likely higher cost to get you a little Lower in the range.

If your considering the DSW Pro 600 why not get the DSW Pro660wi. Acording to polks web page it list for cheaper and has double the wattage in both RMS and Peak.

I got the Polk DSW Pro550wi and am happy with it. It sounds great. Crutchfield had a sale. Buy 499 bucks in polk speakers and get a free psw111 sub or a $299 credit twards a different polk sub. So i went for the dsw pro 550wi.

The Polk sub line has gone through a complete overhaul. I love my DSWpro 400. The DSW line can now hold their own. So by all means, get the 600 & enjoy.
