Upgrade PSW110 to PSW550 w/ (Monitor60's)

Hello, new Polk forum member here. :rolleyes:
My question is if you would recommend an upgrade from PSW110 to PSW550 based on the following:

My setup:
2x Monitor 60 - FRONT
PSW100 - SUB
CS2 - CENTER
2x RM8 - SURR.
2x RM7 - SURR
Room Size: Small/Medium (divided basement, wooden wall panels)

-- I am looking for more impact/shake from the sub, but I am worried it may drown out the 60's or the smaller RMs. :confused:

** I may or may not be able to sell the PSW110
**PSW550 is hovering at around $229 on Newegg.com

Thanks!
System:

Receiver - ONKYO HT-RC260
Fronts - Monitor 70 II
Center - CS2 II
Sub - PSW505
Surround - RM8
Surround Back - RM7

    The 505 also has crossover and volume knobs, so you can blend it pretty easily :) I <3 my 505, great little sub for the $$$. Might want to check out JR for free shipping.

    Gonna chicken out again? The H100 will dominate the 550 with it's 8" driver and 100 watt RMS.

    Well, you might want to reconsider your position. Clearly the OP is talking about the PSW 505, which has a 12" sub, with a 300 Watt Continuous (460 Watt Dynamic) Power amplifier.

    I'm reading the OP's title: Upgrade PSW110 to PSW550 w/ (Monitor60's)

    Fair enough. Newegg does not sell the 550, which has been discontinued for some time, while it does sell the 505 at $229, so my guess is that the OP jumbled some numbers.

    EDIT: p.s. Bamm, Welcome to Club Polk, looks like we all agree, if it is the 505, go for it ;)

    For what, exactly? Just a case of mistaken sub identity, in which case jinjuku would have clearly been right that the PSW550 would be dominated.

    ...

    Never mind, looks like both sides are content to soldier on. I didn't realize that there was a back story to this drama llama.

    Don't worry Bamm, not every thread turns into a taping of Jerry Springer :rolleyes:

    No he likes to fight with members and by what he is doing (calling them out to place money on something) is just old and annoying. He wants to act and be treated like a top dog just because someone brusied his ego somewhere but acts more like a 12 year old with what he does and says.

    Calling someone out and saying to put money where their mouth is, is annoying, and stupid. No one cares anymore and by doing it over and over again your not helping your case of "you just want to help" because its more like you just want to fight and prove yourself right all the time.

    Yowza, what a thread. But I am going to have to see about getting that 505. For $209 shipped I don't think I could do better used either:eek:

    People here (Jin) seem to have thin skin and Keiko shouldn't have started it.

    Im sure the 505 will impress you, but don't be mistaken, the upgrade bug never goes away. SVS/HSU!

    Wow! 7 whole posts, member for a month and you got the mechanics of this club all figured out. Impressive! :rolleyes:

    I am flabbergasted at the rudeness. So far everyone has been a real help on me getting a stereo set up. You both are behaving like children but you started throwing the toys first.

    I'll bow out now and report your post. Cheers everyone.

    No I mean the other two threads that you lacked any yams in the sack for. Should I post the thread links?

    We'll finish up the first two and then move on to the third... :wink:

    Any future time I need something to wipe the floor up with I'll be sure to PM you.

    Apologies to the OP are on order from almost everyone in this thread BTW. Since we are talking about the PSW 505 and not the 550 then it's all rather moot.

    sure. yet calling out members won't stop. Once again you act like you have something to prove and that you are better than everyone else. Which I will say over and over again you are not proving anything with the way you act, talk, nor come across on the forum, nor helping anyone by claiming one thing then saying something different.

    Some people have thin skin, some people have thick skin.

    I hope to go toe to toe one day with the old school vets (we all know who they are).

    I don't understand the newbies coming in with thin skin and a horrible attitude.

    209.00 and free shipping is a really sweet deal. You can't go wrong if you decide to jump on it.

    Cheers,

    K

    Ordered it, Keiko. Now, if I can push my dad to buy the psw110 off me, then I'm really set.

    TY again.

    Got the PSW 505, and it really kicks. Bass, maybe not quite as tight as the PSW110, but really has more power, and I can now really "feel" my movies.
    Still experimenting with crossovers to get the best sound I can. I am finding out that what works for movies, might not work equally well for music.

    I am trying to understand how the Onkyo Audyssey, shapes the crossover settings. Whenever I run the audyssey/mic setup, it sets the Monitor70s and Cs2 Center to 40Hz, Rm8s to 150Hz, Rm7s to 120Hz and PSW505 LFE to 80Hz.
    The sound that comes out is pleasant but it contradicts many posts I read, where people recommend the M70s and CS2 at 60-80Hz.

    So far I have the speakers at:
    Monitors 70 = 60Hz
    CS2 = 80Hz
    PSW505 = LFE 80Hz
    RM8 = 150 Hz
    RM7 = 120 Hz

    Receiver - ONKYO HT-RC260
    Fronts - Monitor 70 II
    Center - CS2 II
    Sub - PSW505
    Surround - RM8
    Surround Back - RM7

    Which crossover are you talking ? If your using the crossover in the receiver's setup menu, then the one on the back of the sub should be turned all the way up to it's highest value. Also, I have in the past gotten great results tightening up the bass with just a change in cable and/or power cord.

    I do not see the point in having BOTH the sub and the m70's handling the 60-80hz range. This duplication of effort made my system sound crappy. I then set the sub to handle everything below 80hz and the speakers handle everything above 80hz and once blended in with the volume and phase, this combo sounds very harmonic! The bass is stong and deep and fills the room entirely, YET you can't tell where the sub is in my room, you could NOT point to it sitting on the couch, that's how good it blends in. Anyway, good luck to you!
