I miss the music and what could have been... I had just begun to appreciate the music of The Beatles and just begun to explore the solo works of John, Paul, George, and Ringo when he was gunned down. He is the only celebrity whose passing moved me to tears.

I miss you John... Rest in Peace.:frown::frown:

For those interested check out Larry Kane's book "Lennon Revealed" for some interesting Lennon anecdotes. The book opens with the shooting. For those who don't know Larry Kane was an embedded reporter that traveled with the Beatles on their first US tours. This is where he met and became friends with John Lennon. Cheers.

RIP John. He was one of my early days musical heroes. I am a huge Beatles fan and a big John Lennon fan. I'm wearing my 'Beatles for President' button to work today in honor of him :)

Me too! My mom told me after I woke up for school the next morning. I still remember that. When I read about it in the paper later in the day, I was still shocked by it.

I was 15. First time I can remember shedding tears for someone I didn't know.

Just for the record, I do like the Beatles, have respect for John and all, but never saw him as the genius he's made out to be. Never liked his solo work. Shame the man was shot. If he was still alive today, we would have more drug induced crappy music with Yoko at his side.

    In Memoriam, John!

As pointed out in a previous post. I was living on the Westside of Manhattan about 40 blocks north of the Dakota when that happened; passed by the Dakota many times. It was a sad sad day. My roommate, who had been a musician and HUGE Lennon fan, was even more devastated.

Couldn't agree more. Although it was sad he got shot for no reason, his solo material was pretty bad, even compared to Ringo's.

Couldn't disagree more. His solo work is brilliant. Give Peace a Chance, Imagine, Happy Christmas (War is Over) are all brilliantly written and capture the soul of the peace loving generation of the late 60's and early 70's. Then his album" Double Fantasy" beautifully captures and expresses his personal feelings on life, family, and aging.

Ringo's songs might have been cute and catchy, but had no depth at all compared to what Lennon wrote.

I was never a fan (I was in the Paul McCartney camp), but it was sad to see him go the way he did.

Dang, I was surprised to see it's been 30 yrs. I thought I was older when he was killed, but I was 21 at the time.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.
