This is just crazy. I would love to know who he was working for, and why it took a gardener to bring this guy down. The funny part is that he is sorry that he will be loosing all his possessions when they burn the house down.

I would think they need to build a solid concrete barrier wall around it before they light it...no?

He brought the stuff in, make him bring it out...yes?

Maybe it's jut me, but .... this sounds like it isn't going to turn out too well.

I can understand them not letting the wife go into the house to "retrieve things", but doesn't the San Diego County Sheriff's Department have at least access to remote sensors/robots ?

Looks like they might light the house up as early as this Wednesday. If so, I can forsee the phrase, "While we could not accurately determine the amount and nature of explosives in the house, we certainly did not anticipate such a large explosion.".
That would be in response to the reporter question: "You have a 200 yard radius, 10 foot deep crater where the residence once stood: how did that happen ?".

I'd suggest the nearby neighbors, who probably aren't covered under their homeowners insurance for damages caused by any "Act of War, terrorism, or civil unrest" are going to be surprised.

A link for this story, give a little more detail:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101206/ap_on_re_us/us_explosive_house

The more you read about this thing, the more the realization hits you: This falls into the "BIG DEAL" category.

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency, and hospitals will be on standby in case there is a rash of people getting sick,"

So much crap in the joint they wouldn't be able to maneuver robots.

I am curious as to why this story seems to not be getting the national coverage it deserves and why the media is not asking the hard questions, such as who was he making these explosive for, and for what purpose. I am sure there is far more here than what we are being told...

    From the article -
Jakubec's alleged "bomb factory" was discovered Nov. 18, after a gardener unwittingly stepped on an explosive in the yard, triggering a blast.

Nice.....I think this guy is just some type of nut.

Late Update: Looks like there will be a slight delay to the fireworks show.

    http://www.cbs8.com/Global/story.asp?S=13635073

"The scheduled burning of a house filled with explosives in Escondido could be delayed. The lawyer for the accused bomb maker wants a judge to allow his client time to retrieve items from the home."

    Completely understandable.

I think of all the time and energy (not to mention money) that Mr. Jakubec went to in order to gather his explosive collection and, well .... it would just be criminal to deprive him of his treasures.
An antique Atlas blasting machine in good working order doesn't just grow on trees mister !
(one is available on Ebay for $102 with 3 days to go, btw. 2 Bidders  so far, so .... probably go for $500+).

    C'mon California; lighten up a little !
