My projector's lamp blew up yesterday with less than 300 hours (It's supposed to last 4,000 Hrs). Needless to say I was pissed. I was watching the Ravens-Steelers game.
The lamp has a 90 days warranty and I bought the projector 4 months ago. That got me even more pissed. I called Epson CS, and with absolutely no hassle they agreed to send me a replacement lamp, overnight.

Still a pain, but they responded better than I expected.

Happened to another Polkie on here also. Sucks, but glad you got it taken care of without a fuss. Only thing though it can happen to any projector, heard it happen to a few guys on AVS with JVC and Sony models also. I always keep a spare.

Can it mess up the projector if it blows like that?

It can if little bits of the glass dust land on the LCD mirror thingies. It rarely happens because there is a screen. Also bulbs don't normally explode, Epson just had a bad batch a while back that is now being weeded out.

Second lamp...nine months later and this time with 560 hours. Called Epson again with low hopes. But they delivered. They are shipping a new lamp and it will be here on Thursday.

They said that there was an issue with some lamps and they changed manufacturer....I wonder if my spare is also a lemon...

    Anyway, great Customer Service!!!

I got a candid response from a service rep that a whole pile of the lamps are lemons until, but it is more cost effective for them to replace lamps for free than to toss a whole shipment of lamps.

The problem with that is that when the lamp explodes, it might leave glass dust on your lens. That happened to me and it sucked.

The upside was that Epson gave me a brand new projector and current model.

IMHO, with all the Chinese crap manufacturing nowadays, it is only the quality of after sales service that sets a company apart from the others.

    And here we go again.....

Las week my projector started showing a red line at the top of the screen and a green one at the bottom; each about 3 inches wide and all across the screen.

So I called Epson today and after a couple of minutes trying to troubeshoot over the phone, the rep said they will overnight a new projector at their cost.

Hassle free, quick, awesome customer service!!!!

Ricardo, I just wanted to say that I'm amazed by the level of service they're providing you. Your projector was almost 2 years old and sending you a new one overnight is just insane.

I do hope you're not going to have more problems though... :s

Just figured I'd add some love for Epson here. My first bulb in my 8500UB popped shortly after the 1,800 hour mark and they sent me a replacement bulb with no issues. So that replacement bulb just hit 1,800 hours... and has started dimming the way the last one did shortly before it blew. I only have a month left on my warranty, so I called Epson to see if they thought that meant this one was going to blow too and told them I'd rather not have to clean glass out of my projector again.

Big props to Epson customer service. They're overnighting me a bulb first thing in the morning, before this one even blows! Fingers crossed that this bulb keeps going for tomorrow night's viewing of War Horse, 'cause I have 9 people coming over... but it's amazing that Epson is taking care of people so readily. Compared to the HORRIBLE experience I had with Sanyo when I had my PLV-Z2000, I couldn't be more happy with Epson's customer service.
