Looking for sub that matches the CSW passive sub

I tried using a standard sub woofer, but the problem is the bass it generates seems too thundery. So in games when a lot is going on the bass gets way too strong causes my ears to pop.
The bass generated by the CSW ensemble IV I got in 1998 generates what I would call softer bass. But when a lot is going on it doesn't have a thunder like sound to it.
So are there subs out there that can generate softer bass like the CSW passive sub.
Currently using Denon 591.

You might try a smaller subwoofer like the PSW111.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Anyone else have more suggestions?
Will a smaller sub woofer really produce bass but not be as thumpy?
I'm not sure if the PSW111 will be really soft bass, it sounds like its small in size but generates bass of larger subs. -

Never heard of "softer" bass, maybe you were sitting in a null.
If the bass is too strong either move yourself away from a wall or move the sub away from the wall or into a more favourable position.2Ch Tube Audio Convert -
Thundery bass may be boomy bass from a poor sub. Which subwoofer are you using? What do you mean by a standard subwoofer? All subwoofers are in the same as they produce low frequencies faithfully.2Ch Tube Audio Convert

I read "soft" bass and figured you wanted a smaller, supplemental bass resource. Honestly, I wish I never even answered.
