    Greyford,
Great job on the gloss.Excellent work. You have got me wanting to build a couple more custom subs to match my Floor standing speakers now.... Thats one mean looking driver, are you sure you wont blow out the window with that beast...only kidding.Should really do a good job.Your friend will be blown away with this unit looks better than anything Ive every seen as far as sub's go.

Let us know how she sounds,What stuffing are you putting inside the unit ?.

Yep, I think his gf will like it just as much as he does. She sent me an email today saying she can't wait to see it lol:eek: It is an oil based finish, just regular old clear gloss Minwax, I know there are better professional products out there but this came out well. And it's more budget friendly for his gf. With the oak, I especially like the oil based because of the amber tint the oil based poly has. Altho it would be nice not to have the fumes of the waterborne poly lol. But I do use safety when applying it:wink:

Thanks again! I can't wait to see the look on his face when I deliver it to him lol. I decided to try out the acoustic foam from parts express this time, never used it before so decided what the hell:tongue: And that's what I like to hear, more custom sub builds:biggrin: Looking forward to hear your thoughts on how your speakers sound as well.

    Greyford,
Still waiting in my crossover parts, will be a few more weeks before I get them.Coming all the way from da USA.

I decided on a couple of Dayton 1% caps.Ive heard good feedback on the Dayton caps sonic's.They are very cheap compared to the other brands so I will give them a try.

I have also been working on sound material for the inside of my speaker cabs. After abit of research I have decided to make my own composite material using 2 layers of diffrent density foams glued together like Black hole but much cheaper.

The first layer is 3/8 inch car dead foam which is usually glued to the floor pan of cars. Its a white foam you can get off Ebay. The white foam is used to treat low frequecys. The second layer is standard 1 inch Accoustic sonic foam used to treat high frequencys.

I will glue the one inch Accoustic foam to the 3/8 white sound foam with spray contact glue.So I will have a 2 layer foam to treat the inside of the cabs.

Im not sure as to whether my homemade cab sound treatment will work, but Im going to give it a try.I also intend to reinstall the original foam that was installed around the drivers.

I have decided to use silicon to glue the foam sheeting in place. If it sounds like crap I can easily remove the new foam and silcon and go back to the drawing board as they say.

Standing wave treatment is a trial and error job.Im really just having a play but it will be intresting to see what the out come will be.

I think for subs they recommend treatment on the opposite wall to the driver only, for port designs, but anything you put in the box has got to be better than nothing at all.

That's the funnest part of this hobby, trying out new things. And if it doesn't work out well, like you said, you try something else:biggrin: Altho sometimes I think my other half may not like this approach lol. However this does keep me out of her hair sometimes when she likes to just have her peaceful alone time at home..that is until I drag her to where I'm working and say look at this and she just rolls her eyes and gives me the this is why you bothered me for look?

Greyford I know what you mean,my other half is the same here. She calls me her mad proffesor as I have lots of wierd hobby projects on the go at the same time. She says thats nice dear rolls her eyes and smiles as she dosnt have a clue what Im talking about.

We are all mad in this house. The other half is a frustrated artist so there is always something new popping up.With all my electronic project bits and pieces and her art projects around the place things get quite crazy fighting over space to put stuff. At least I dont bring bikes into the house to rebuild like I use to do before I got tied up.

Rebuilding a Harley in the kitchen dosnt go well with the girls... I do now have a workshop and the woman has a studio which has saved the marriage.

lol...yep i fully understand. My gf is now getting into designing and making clothes, so I now have something to roll my eyes at and have no clue what she's talking about:tongue: However, she does like to help me work on the cars every now and then...damn is she sexy with a little grease rubbed on her nose:biggrin:

Woohoo! It's completely finished now, just finished up installing the woofer and giving it a test run:biggrin: I tried it out with some music and also Iron Man 2, the part where he jumps out of the plane at the beginning. Sounds good so far, obviously still has to be broken in and will sound even better. Sounded very clean and definitely shook the walls:biggrin: Who knew an end table could sound so could? Hopefully will sound just as good in his room with his setup. Will deliver it maybe tomorrow(depending on the snow storm) or Thursday. Next!

Well I just had my first very happy customer:biggrin: They both loved the sub. I did have to recalibrate his avr ofc. I ran the auto calibration on his Pioneer, but then had to manually change some settings. After the initial setup, the sub was barely audible and my friend wasn't looking very happy lol. Found out the auto calibration had the sub turned all the way down, so had to turn it up to -3 and now it sounds great. We popped in the Avatar blu ray and man the place was rumbling. Scared the s#!t out of the cats:biggrin::tongue: Poor things went running for cover. Now they decided that they might have me build another table, no sub, to match because they said it looks nicer than their existing end tables:eek:

Just a little update from my friend on how the sub is sounding. He's been listening to music, watching movies, and playing video games since I dropped it off to him on Tuesday night. I told him to take it a little easy since the sub has to break in some more. Well last night they were watching Despicable Me, and he said the sub got dramatically louder as they were watching it. I thought it should take longer to break in but I'll take his word on it:eek: He said he thinks they are gonna have to turn the gain down some more, this coming from a guy who wanted the 500 watt amp but was denied it by his gf, hence the 300 watt amp lol:eek::tongue: So all is well and now he's finally happy that he has a sub.
