Audioholic fell off

Hi. I'm an audioholic and I've been on the wagon for several years but just recently I backslid.......let the bug back in and now I need a fix or two or three.
I picked up a pair of RT5s from a member here....should be here next week. I've been looking for Monitor 10s but shipping with shipping costs they'd cost over $300+. I'd like to try other Polks but Best Buy is the only local source and their choice is limited. We have two "audio" stores locally and they handle good equipment but no Polks. I'm happy with my B$Ws but I just want to try others......smaller probably. I'd like to hear any recommendations from the group. There are 100s listed on e-bay but none I'm familiar with except the RT5s and Monitor 10s. There are some RT4s, RT10s, RT15s and I think there are some RT3s. I know there are probably some better choices that would be worth listening to.
Since My wife and son passed 16yrs. back I've tried to stay involved in something I enjoyed and I've collected S&W revolvers. old bolt action rifles and I've done some very amateur photography but audio has always been my favorite.
I've been all over the net. and visited several forums but I have to say this is the friendliest I've found. TIA

I'm in Lubbock, Tx. and there are few if any used quality audio components locally. Thanks for the offer BigDaw I'd take you up but it's a long drive.
There are some Polk LSi speakers on e-bay that the sellers are very proud of....does anyone here have exp. with these? How do the Monitor 7s and 5s compare with the Monitor 10Bs? I liked my 10Bs for their very open sound...better than my ADS L710s but the bass in the ADS was tighter. I should have had the ADS refoamed but I gave them to "Misty" a DJ here some may have heard of.
My Yamaha 2092 receiver I've been using mostly as a preamp for my 5800 has developed a problem I think with the volume control.......the volume falls off sometimes. I put my Adcom 565 preamp in it's place and noticed a smoother top end right away but I'll try to fix the Yamaha and use it in one of my HT setups.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have about speakers.TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE. -

I love my LSi's... never laid ears on the monitors or RT's so can't compare. If you're considering LSi's then you also need to figure a nice high current amp into you plans.

Now I'm using an Adcom 5800 with an Adcom 565 preamp but I have a guest bedroom that has had about 6 guests in the last 16 yrs. so I'm thinking about seeing if I can fix my old Yamaha 2092 receivers volume control and turning the bedroom into a place where I can go to listen to my vinyl collection. I don't really need the power of the Yamaha but I have it and it should do a decent job for what I need. I'm in the market for another HT receiver. I've been looking at Denon and Onkyo available at Amazon since I get "free" shipping. I like to shop locally but the prices are "boutique" and even tho I can buy whatever I want my grandkids will appreciate a few extra $ when I move along.
I may even look into tubes:cool: for a little 2nd harmonic distortion that I hear is sweet. Have fun...... time runs out much much sooner than we think. Thanks for any comments.TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE. -

My personal opinion on HT AVRs though, is that you can't really go wrong with most of the mainstream name-brands, IF you go at least halfway up their lines. I've definitely not been impressed with some of their lower-end stuff. I think a general rule is that if it has pre-outs, you're probably ok (even if you're not going to use them). -

Hi Don, I'm in Houston and if you're ever in town please drop me a line. I will soon have a pair of modified SDA SRS - well hopefully if I really get some down time around Christmas. I'd like to have the opportunity to show them off to a fellow forum member. I fell in love with my original pair of SDA 2B's in the late eighties, and used them until recently when I got the SRS's. I'm not familiar with the models that you mention above - but I'm pretty sure they are much newer than either of my SDA speakers. I've seen some of these old SDA speakers go for cheap on CL or eBay and I think the price point is similar although I'm not very knowledgeable about the price ranges. I hope some of the more seasoned veterans will comment on the possibility of looking into the SDA line compared to the models you mention in your original post, and also compare and contrast price and audio qualities.
And welcome!SDA SRS modded: Xovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDOd, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Thanks to Raife and all who forged easy to follow upgrades. At least a 100% improvement in sound and my personal listening pleasure! :cheesygrin:Pass XP-10 preamp, Parasound A21 amp, Pioneer Elite DV-58AV (Ric Shultz modded), Audioquest Sky IC's, No longer need my Sunfire sub after mods... -

Thanks for all the welcomes! I have a pair of RT5, and RT3s and 10a or Bs on the way. i have a Onkyo 9555 Intergrated amp. and a wood rack that I should have up today. I'm going to try some vinyl with my little. B$W 805 Nautilus
.
I'll work on the "guest" room converting it into another listening area. I run out of energy quicker than I did just a few years back and I take a little longer to get things done. I can't think of a better way to go.........except maybe in my sleep.
Like I said we have two audio stores (besides Best Buy) in town and I visited one of them this week and they've practically gotten out of the 2 channel stereo market and now deal in selling and installing home theater systems using in wall and in ceiling speakers. Looks like mail order may be my main source of components. Amazon and E-Bay:biggrin:
I know this is a Polk forum but everyone's been so helpful I want to ask if anyone has or knows of any parts for ADS speakers.TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE. -

Hey Don, welcome to CP. We love it here too.
As far as speakers go, I picked up a pair of older LS90's and have been very happy with them. But the story is not over there. After hanging here for a bit (I too, had been out of the hifi game for a few years raising a family) I stepped into tube pre/power amps and have found a whole new joy. As a hobbiest, nothing has been quite as rewarding as listening to, and tweaking my tube gear with vintage tubes. If you want to have some real fun, snag a nice used VTL 2.5 preamp and start rolling in some nice tubes. It'll take the edge off of that Adcom and can be very sonically rewarding. They can be had for $750-900 used. I found it to be a doorway to listening pleasure I had forgotten I could have.
Good luck and remember that if you buy used gear at a reasonable price, you can usually sell it for what you have in it. So look around the Flea Market and Audiogon. There is always some good stuff to be had.-Kevin

I plan to look into a tube preamp soon. When I put my 565 pre in place of the Yamaha I did notice a difference in the very top end. Tubes can add a little 2nd harmonic distortion soften the edges.
