Yeah I thought so too, but its specs are impressive. I think I might try a VMPS Larger sub and power it with my Wyred4Sound 1000 amp and use by Spatial HD software and Dac as an external crossover.

    Pete Hsu:
The build quality, sound quality, feature set, and output capability of this new subwoofer is extremely impressive. One would need ULS-15 DualDrive to match/exceed the clean output capability of one VTF-15H from 16-100Hz. Of course, the VTF-15H is twice the size too, but very impressive in many respects!

That's a big statement. Hopefully they make a replacement grill that'll cover the ports.

I got that Trinity on my short list.

****, I kinda want one. . . . Leroy, are you in the market for a sub? Some manufacturers offer deals if you buy multiples. Perhaps we could work something out together.

HMmmmm decisions, they are both priced the same, but the VMPS requires an external amp and crossover. I have both. Decisions.

    This thing is a beast
    (2)14" drivers
    (4) 14" PR's
    185 lbs

I wish there was a place near me to demo this sub. I've heard the Reference and it sounded outstanding. It'll be a nice addition to my Mythos.

Wanna know why it is called the Trinity sub:
A Special Subwoofer Designed for a Special Place
When the pipe organ in New York’s historic Trinity Church was damaged beyond repair by contaminants from the World Trade Center collapse, organ manufacturer Marshall & Ogletree designed a state-of-the-art electronic organ that would sound just like a pipe organ. Definitive’s bipolar towers were chosen to replace the pipes (one for each organ pipe). But what speaker could reproduce the ultra-deep bass of the longest organ pipes? It normally takes a 5’ x 5’ x 8’ subwoofer enclosure; could Definitive’s engineers design a subwoofer that could produce over-the-top bass in a more reasonable enclosure size?

Yes they could; and the SuperCube® Trinity Signature was born. It delivers outstanding low frequency performance which heretofore has not been available in such a compact enclosure. Capable of prodigious output (in excess of 128 db at 20 Hz and 116 db at 16 Hz in a normal room) the Signature is also quick and highly detailed. It may be used vertically or positioned on its back when custom installations call for it.

    Leroy,

In that price range have you thought about JL audio? Just curious to see how they would fair against the trinity. The trinity looks very nice. I have heard the supercube I, I think it was and was very impressed, so I can only imagine what the trinity sounds like. But at the price tag I wonder how it compares to jl and others.

Y'all need to talk with Trey. Seriously. The VMPS Larger [modified] he has since sold to make his new custom sub was hands down the most heart wrenching, pound-your-**** into the ground sub I have ever heard. Even at 100+ db. No sub I have EVER heard even comes close to the output his had going on. BTW, I used to own the very sub I'm talking about before he modded it.

His new sub is going to be massively insane.

Did you need two for stereo? I know Trey had that for a while. I think I am going to get an upgraded Larger sub here shortly.

Well, you can hook one Larger up in stereo or mono [at least you could with Trey's unmodified Larger] but I preferred to listen to one hooked up in mono. To me, in my system, it just sounded better. That, and it didn't make sense to have an active 15" driver on one channel and an active 12" driver on the other.

When Trey originally sold me his Larger , he had two of them hooked up in stereo and yes......I had to ask if the subs were on or not. BTW, don't get an upgraded sub from VMPS. Just order the Larger and see if some baskets can be omitted for a discount [hey, doesn't hurt to ask...] and then get the passive Trey most currently had in the system I heard. I have owned the same sub he just sold for about two years or so and I never in a million years would have thought that it could sound the way it did the day I auditioned the upgraded one at Treys'. Basically, it blew me away. Keep in mind, I do not give glowing reviews very often...if ever.

Now, I must say that we did not have the time to sit down and do some serious 2-channel critical listening. We watched part of a Transformer movie that had some really low frequencies, often. She didn't miss a beat and seemed to laugh at what the movie was throwing at her. I will also like to point out that while a stock Larger is a good sub, I could never perfect the sound on the 2-channel rig until I got the SMS-1. As soon as I did, the sub disappeared as it did in Trey's rig. I think he was running some sort of software that did basically the same type of thing the SMS-1 did.

    Wow 128db's at 20 hz.
From about a foot. The Trinity has been measured and it has lots of output, but Deftech has been overstating frequency response and output as a habit for years. 2M outdoors it's about 108-110dbs @ 20hz IIRC...which is stellar output down low, but it gives up some above 50hz and there are other subs that rival the output for much less. The Hsu has better output from 40-80hz, but not as much down low. The Ultra 13 is a db or 2 shy at 20hz, but takes off above 30hz. A Submersive, CHT 18.2, A7-900, any Danley, for various reasons, all exceed the Trinity's output ability for less dollars.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

Agreed, at the Subwoofer review summary the Ultra-13 scored higher than
    the Trinity overall.

Another SVS wannabe subwoofer from HSU. The Doctor is just not satisfied that a few college grad's can trump him at the drop of a hat.

I SAW the Trinity upon its debut in 2005....it's pretty awesome but....there was nothing to listen to at CES. The DT guys were very cool to yank the actual drivers out like a proud Dad's. They literally unpacked them in front of us from the factory. I'm sure it got better since then....if not WAY better.

How they get rated on the review, well, that's the way it goes. Polk usually gets hammered on them as well.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'd like to see some reviews done where no one know what sub it is.
