Polk LS90 front panel question

I have been noticing two different looks to the front of the LS90. One is totally flat, the other has what appears to be a bit of a recessed panel with a Polk Audio label just below the bottom driver(both with the covers off).

Am I not seeing things correctly?

The first has had what the 2nd has removed. That flange is notorious for coming loose over time.
