I have been playing with the S8's that I picked up. They really cleaned up nice and, other than some torn vinyl covering on one of the corners, they look like new.

One of the SL-5000 tweeters has a couple broken locking taps that hold the magnet in place. The original owner had taped it to hold it together. I removed the tape and applied a little glue for now. It seems to work fine but I may look for a replacement. Polk still has the SL-5000 in stock for $48 and free ship (club price). Since this one is working, I'll hold out for something here or EB.

I also found that one of the speakers seems to have a slight air leak which I believe is due to a bad MW or PR gasket. Polk took a different approach for these in that they use what looks like a thin foam O-ring that goes just around the perimeter of the basket and seals at the very edge of the opening in the cabinet. Polk parts does not have these gaskets anymore. If I don't find anything else, I'll do the Moretite thing. Any other ideas?

The sound quality of these speakers is actually quite nice. The bass is solid and dig fairly deep. The mids and highs are sooth, not over done and, in a word, pleasant. These may be one of Polk's most under-rated speakers.
