I don't know if it's just me, but a guy at work told me to watch these videos and I can't stop laughing.

Something about a guy putting a train horn on his car that just cracks me up.

My Grandfather had a semi air horn on his pick up truck back in the 70's. We got some good jumps out of people in the K-mart parking lot.

Of course he got me a few times when he would come over to the house and I was out in the yard playing.

There was a video like that where they ended up getting pulled over, officer went around to the front of the vehicle and they blasted it. Video went off before the officer even came back around...I wish we could've seen what happened after that!

My buddy had a jeep that had an on board air system for tools...and of course, train horns. We scared the **** outta people...haha. Nothing like driving between between (4) 4-story dorms separated by just enough space for a road and side walk and pulling the chain...hilarious.

Have a guy here with one on his Fusion... You get ticketed for it. And firing one off under an underpass like that can cause hearing damage.

I think that's about the jerkiest thing someone can do. Irritates the heck out of me to think someone would do that. Perhaps having a father with hearing issues makes me more sensitive to that, I dunno.

But at the same time I have to admit, I laughed a lot watching those videos. It was hilarious to see them jump so much, as if they were physically in danger.

Well now we have both my parents covered!

Like I said, I thought watching their reactions was hilarious. It just really irks me to think about someone so drastically disturbing the peace in a way that could so easily adversely affect someone, rather it be ruin someone's evening (and next few days in my dad's case with his tinnitus), or something worse.

Oh c'mon, it's a half a second of noise. A good clap of thunder or a motorcycle going by would be just as bad (just not as surprising). If poor daddy's day would be ruined by that, he shouldn't be outside, at least not without earplugs.

I was laughing out loud and actually watched no less than 10 more clips on the train horns, ferry horns, fog horns, etc. I would never put one on my truck but know a bunch of guys on the titan forum that have done it. It's all in good fun - don't really see a safety issue with it at all.

That's the problem with so many of these types of pranks...they have the ability to literally kill someone. Sure it isn't likely that someone with a bad heart will keel over and die, but it's not smart to take that chance.

When they're using the horn that close to people, there is also a good chance that they could cause damage to someone's hearing. A dangerous sound is anything that is 85 dB or higher. A normal person's voice is around 65dB. A fog horn starts at 100dB (on average), with some horns ranging from 125dB to 145dB.

I guess I just don't find it funny to take risks like that, no matter how small they might be.

No, there isn't. Barring HUGE trauma, hearing loss is incremental, not caused by a half a second of noise. There is next to NO chance it will damage anything, unless you're wearing your good panties when they get in a wad over stuff like this.

Seriously, some of you must just be the most joyless people on the planet. Can't you sit back and enjoy ANYTHING without worrying and fretting?

I sat back once and tried to enjoy something. Almost killed me when I leaned back to far and the chair tipped over.

Needless to say, I don't use chairs anymore! Suggest you boys do the same. If I would've had a heart condition I would've died from fright.

Holy Smokes!?!?!?!?! You guys cannot be serious. Have you ever hid around a corner and jumped out to scare someone? Same rule applies to the train horn. You COULD have killed someone, in your rationale!?!?!?! Really?!? My God, take a step back and take it for what it is. Maybe a **** move and something that I probably wouldn't do, but notice that many of the people laugh when they figure out what's going wrong. I equate it to the uneven sidewalk that I trip over while walking through the city. People see me and I get mad that they laugh because I am embarassed about looking like a fool. Then I take a step back and laugh. Why? Because it's funny, even though I could have fallen and hit my head on the sidewalk and died from a brain hemorrhage. Lighten up guys.

Wow, you guys scare me. How bad could your lives be that a practical joke or prank is over the top to you. If they were using squirt bottles full of bleach I can see being upset. It is just a loud horn. He blows the thing for like 1/2 second and you guys are talking about killing people.

I would laugh my arse off if it happened to me. And then I would sue them cause that is what we do in America. I would sue them for scaring me until I pooped and fake a heart attack and hearing loss. Whatya say

These guys should be put on trial for mass attempted murder!!!! Right???!!!!

I'm an ****, it's true. Yes, they could have killed someone...it's a statistical fact.
It's also theoretically possible that the air waves from the horn could have ripped a hole in the fabric of space-time and killed us all!
    Reckless ****.

Yes, they could have killed someone...it's a statistical fact.

If you take inventory on everything that could statistically kill you on a daily basis, you'd be in the rubber room in no time flat. You can get killed walking across the street, driving a car, flying a plane, and the list is endless. It's actually sad that the topic of death has come up in a thread started about someone honking a horn. Or maybe I am just too immature to see the light.
