Soft crackling / popping with new speakers

Hey everyone, first real thread here

Just got my M60s setup recently and have a strange problem, I have a very soft intermittent crackling / popping sound when playing Xbox 360 (most noticeable when racing in-game in Forza 3, not when playing menu music). I also do not notice the sound when watching TV or when listening to music.

I was wondering if this will go away when the speakers break-in? I also do remember hearing the sound from the left channel when I had my M30s setup as my front speakers. I'm currently using just the standard speaker wire screwed tight into the cap, will upgrading to banana plugs help resolve this issue? Will I need them on every speaker? (7.1)

    If it happened on the same channel w/ another speaker connected its going to be either the wire (doubtful) or the receiver. Your speakers shouldnt produce that type of sound and most dont really need any break in time. I would try using another piece of speaker wire and making sure you have everything wired correctly and then call the receiver manufacture to see about getting it looked at. You could be hearing some interference. What brand of speaker wire and what gauge are you using?

    I was just about to edit that part in, I'm using 14AWG speaker wire from Monoprice. The ends seemed a bit frayed now that I think about it, will cutting it and restripping a new part help any? Should I also re-do it at the receiver plug-in? The receiver is a Denon 1910 and it's literally brand new, purchased 2 weeks ago.

    I would recut the connections, ensure they are tight as well. Bannana and spade connectors are never a bad idea either as they make disconnecting and reconnecting gear much much easier.

    Also just because the receiver is new doesn't mean there couldn't be an issue, however start with the wire and trace back from there.

    Glad to report that redoing the cables and blowing out all the connectors NES-style fixed the problem, I had some recent construction going on and I think some stray particles from sanding the plaster may have found their way into the ports. No more crackling sounds now :)
