Monitor40 vs Monitor40 SeriesII - What's the difference?

I searched the forum as well as the product descriptions but could find the answer.

Does the SeriesII speaker have any enhancement/changes over the standard Monitor 40 speakers?

I bought a set of Mon 40's last year and love them. Looking to add another set in the play room. I'm seeing both for sale on eBay, and the newegg site is currently running great deals on the Mon40 Series II (and Mon30 SeriesII). Just wondering if there is any reason I should be leaning towards the SeriesII.

Thanks

The main differences are "cosmetic". The II series is just a spin off of Monitors carried specifically by newegg.com. The stats are exactly the same as the monitors. The drivers may seem different in color and the front baffles are BLACK instead of the more tacky and dated silver of the original Monitors (like mine?).

I'd say the IIs look 'nicer' because of those cosmetic upgrades! Otherwise...mix and match as you will. Either one or the other!

    Good Luck.

Just purchased a set of both the Series II 40s and 30s (and a CS1) from Newegg for our bedroom HT. Have these up and running as fronts/surrounds, should have the center at the front door tomorrow.

Compared the specs as best I could using Polks discontinued products listing against the limited info for the Series IIs and could find no difference except the speaker fronts are now black as noted above.

Did read (somewhere?) that the Series IIs' cabinets are of wood veneer instead of vinyl ... never saw the originals, but our Series IIs all are wood (or close enough to fool me). Not aware that anyone but Newegg is selling the Monitor Series II line or that, other than old stock, the original Monitor line is still available.

The Series II setup is doing a great job for us and, like you, we couldn't be happier with the value - or the performance they've delivered so far. They're working well with a PSW111 sub and I'm expecting more good stuff when we add the(CS1 center) final piece.

The series II I have seen are vinyl, not wood (30's and 40's). I didn't think it was hard to tell at all.

As I said above, "...good enough to fool me."

The only vinyl speaker I have is a CS2 center with cherry colored vinyl and it is smooth with no texture of grain whereas these Series II speakers have a grainy appearance and feel. But like I said ... good enough to fool me.
