passive radiators are very reliable and seldom fail.

but they are not perfect and when they do fail
they can be replaced, repaired very easily

There are also aftermarket replacement available
if the original are difficult to find.

Sometime modifications would include changing the passive to
an active real speaker driver which would include crossover changes
    and cabinet mods.

Nothing really to be concerned about.

by the way what kind of Passive Radiator do you have and what size
and from what make and model ?

Dont have any bad ones yet but just thinking about that day when I may need a
SW150 or SW155 for the 1.2TL and 2.3TL. They just dont seem to show up on e-bay like
    the SW120 and SW121.

I would call POLK Customer Service
and ask if they stock replacements PR of the types you mentioned
and also the rest of the speaker drivers Mid/Bass and tweeters....
and how long they plan on
    BUT
    if they do not
    Then
you'll have to devise a contigency plan........

    Can it be REPAIR
    Can you find a replacement
    Can you modify
    etc.....

NO PR's are available from Polk Audio for the SDA and haven't been for a long time. That's why I buy them all the time off eBay and here. I probably have 20 or so in storage.

    ...

Real bad advice. Never run an active driver in place of a passive.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

May be a dumb observation on my part. But with the rubber surrounds on Polk PR's. And baring a child sticking something through the cone, cats clawing them etc. What else is there to go wrong?

It's not a dumb question Halo. I've seen spiders seperate, magnets drop off, fabric deteriorate, the glue detach from the PR "plate", the surrounds get so loose they fall out of spec....all kinds of things.

They are rare to find in some sizes, 15" for example, and my suggestion is if you plan on keeping your SDA's or Monitors....you seriously think about spares. Polk has no plans to stop production support of the older products(RD-0194/8 and 3 MW series mid-bass drivers) but at some point that is going to happen. I'd rather be fat and happy than struggling to find something I need.

I've tried for the last couple years to get Polk to work with me on a replacement or at least chamber a suitable replacement from another manufacturer and they're not interested....and very busy with other things which I understand. I'd rather see the new LSiM series than a new PR, so you'll get no complaint from me overall.

Maybe. What's the model number on yours? and the Mon10 PR will vary a little.

I'd have to pull the PR's, got em in a old set of ESS cabs right now. The Mon10 PR's, I think are SW120?!?

I will probably just hold onto the 12" PRs for the time being. Although not original to the ESS speakers they have somewhat brought them back to life.

    I agree.
It was bad advice and not a good recommendation

I have seen where the passive radiator was replaced with an active driver.
The bottom section of the speaker cabinet was "walled internally"
and the passive Xover completely removed although a modified Xover
could also work but in this case
An adjustable active Crossover was used to bi-amp.
The mid/bass was to be more of a midrange.
A small coil and cap for the tweeter inserted inbetween

I think this is what one would call a Frankenspeaker.....

Wow, and I was thinking of hoarding oil stocks or guns.. Now I'll be on the hunt for spare PR's:biggrin:
SDA SRS modded: X’ovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDO’d, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Thanks to Raife and all who forged easy to follow upgrades. At least a 100% improvement in sound and my personal listening pleasure! :cheesygrin:Pass XP-10 preamp, Parasound A21 amp, Pioneer Elite DV-58AV (Ric Shultz modded), Audioquest Sky IC's, No longer need my Sunfire sub after mods...

i now have a set of 1.2's that ben's upgraded to TL's and i love them.. cant wait for the crossovers to break in.

i missed out on that 1.2tl deal in denver that went for 500 bucks by 5 minutes. Think Larry spoke to the guy later that evening.

Dallas is a bit out of my scope.. let me know if you feel like selling them.
