Polk Monitor 50 v Polk 70 - Are the 70s Overkill?
I recently bought the CS10 to replace my cheap center channel and boy what an upgrade. Now my Infinity Reference bookshelf speakers sound like garbage so I'm thinking I might replace them with some Polk floorstanding speakers.
My space is about 15 by 20, but the couch is only about 10 feet from the TV. I have a massive JBL subwoofer. Are the 50s plenty of sound (currently available for $99 each) or am I going to regret not going for the 70s (currently available for $199 each)?

I wouldn't think twice about the 70's, you will get a better front presence and if you play music you will get a great sound in 2 channels stereo.Samsung HP-T4254.
Denon AVR-3311ci, Emotiva XPA-3.
Polk Audio Monitor 70's and 30's, CS2, FXi-A6.
Sony PS3, BDP-S470,Toshiba HD-A2.
AV123 MFW-15 "The Beast".
Logitech Harmony 880, APC AV H10. -
I got the 70's a few weeks ago (and the CS20) and my room is 14' x 10'.
Great combination and great value speakers.Magnavox 185 modified amplifier
Vista Phono+
Technics SL-D2 with ADC XLM MKII improved/AT440OC
Polk Monitor 70 + CS2 -
Either one would work but I'd also go with the MON70. You never know if your next room is going to be bigger and if it is, you're already prepared. It's never a bad idea to think ahead.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I just got my 70s yesterday with CS2 center and love them. Newegg had the cherry for 169. not sure if they still are that price.

I'd at least go with the 60's if not the 70's. The 70's will need a little more power to hear their full potential IMO.

Just picked up the 60s... simply staggering, I doubt you'll be disappointed with either the 60s or the 70s, the 50s just seemed like too small of an upgrade from something like the M40s

Both loudspeakers are quite efficient so power really isn't an issue unless you're using a Fisher Price amplifier. The entire Monitor lineup is easy to drive....don't get wrapped up in BIG power issues here guys, just decent power.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Well I should give an update that I went with the 70s.
Newegg put the black ones on sale for $162 (free shipping) and even though the 60s went on sale for an even more reasonable $119, I just couldn't resist the lure of the 70s. Now I need to resist the urge to upgrade my rears...
