Hello,

I just bought two Polk Micropro 4000 subs direct from Polk...without ever hearing them.

Mainly from this review from one of the forums: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67550&highlight=micropro+4000

Now im getting a worried I went the wrong direction.

Could use some help here from forum members of the pros and cons of the Micropro 4000.

Thanks for your time,

Jeff

Two? Damn, I only had 1 and it was the MP1K.

If you listen to music, you'll love these subs. For HT? The 1K didn't offer alot of SPL but you'll be running dual 4k's. Think you'll be set for awhile

Very quick and accurate subwoofers, and boy do they dig deep!

    Btw, welcome to CP!

    Thanks guys for the support,

I have a big room (40x20x11) phil@Polk CS thought that 2 were needed to fill out the room. I am 70% HT and 30% music right now. Running LSI25's in front and LSIC and LSI9 in back. I am debating going with an SVS ultra pro 13. however my budget is 1500.00, if I need two of the SVS I am way over. Hard to beat the polk direct price currently :)

I run dual MP4K and am very happy. My previous subwoofer was an SVS PB12-Ultra/2 and while they don't hit as hard or pressurize the room as well, I'm not crying over the change. Keep in mind that I also use a SVS AS-EQ1 subwoofer EQ so that helped tweak them quite a bit as my room is not perfect by any means.

    Hi dorokusai,

I am glad you replied. A couple of questions for you, as that SVS is almost the same out as the new SVS PC13U. With Auddesy room correction should be a good alternitive to the svs eq1.

    1. What size room do you have?
    2. Do you run out of headroom at all during movie playback at reference levels?
    3. Do you have any of the dancing or shaking of the sub that some people claim? If so how did you stop it?
    4. Do you really get the claimed 21hz? Really?
5..Can you elaborate a bit more on "i'm not crying over the change"

Thanks for your help...Quite a bit of money is riding on this one.

    No, not that I've noticed

Yes, with 2 20lb bags of lead shot. I used to have a nice custom piece of 2" granite on top, for another subwoofer combination but it doesn't fit this subwoofer. I'll probably do the same when I get some time to get by a local shop again.

I've run it even lower than 21hz but we're not at reference level anymore. Like I said, it doesn't hit as hard as my old SVS.

I love the SVS more but amd pretty happy with the Polk for the moment....both combinations, especially the SVS were WAY more subwoofer than I needed for my room. Everyone likes a different level of bass and I'm flexible.

    Good luck.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Without answering your individual questions, I believe that you will be more than surprised at the outcome of the purchase you just made. Many on this forum would only dream of such a setup of subs. There are others that have experience with "better" subs......

....but the one thing I have learned without question in this hobby after listening to many different subs and many different views of what "bass" should sound like? There is absolutely no right answer to your question of whether you went right or wrong. Only your gained experience, what you have grown to be accustomed to and your own personal musical tastes in music/HT will decide as to whether you made the right decision.

I'll tell you this, to some? Bass is shaking the house down to the foundation along with the neighbors houses. To them? It sounds great. To others, bass is a fundamental foundation of the purity of music that can not be compromised and has to offer the absolute accuracy, texture, impact, thump, pressure, quickness, authority and finesse, offering a beautiful rendering of a live performance or recording.
~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

    Hi treitz3

I understand what your getting at. Priorities of sound differ from one to the next. I know that I have been through the upgrade game for 30 years. I quit that nonsense 5 years ago with the LSI's. There just too good to justify going to megabuck lines. I have heard 50K systems and there not worth the extra 40k to me. Back to bass. I have been using 2 PSW1000 for the last few years. While an excellent sub, there is no doubt it rolls of fast below 35Hz. As I am 70%HT that means I am missing that last octive. Ken@polk CS said the Micropro 4000 are awesome, but must be independently time aligned because of their internal DSP. Luckily, my onkyo processor does TA very well.

Don't worry, you WON'T be disappointed!

I bought my MP4000 summer before last (I think they were fairly new then, so I probably paid twice what you paid - or what you paid for 2 - $1499 plus tax)

My HT room is about 20x28x12, with a large opening to the hallway, also have very thick deep shag carpet.

The MP4000 replaced my old PSW505.

HUGE difference. The day I got it I spent some time just plugging and unplugging the sub cable to each sub, and comparing different music and movie scenes. The MP4000 is an incredible force. I actually would not want a 2nd one in my room, as it would be overkill!

I'm sure you're going to be thrilled with your new Polk sub. From what I've read Polk has really stepped up to the plate with their new sub line. Before I purchased my two Velo SPL-1200R subs I took a look at the Polk line of subs but that was well before Polk came out with their new lines. Their reputation for subs at that time was not very flattering but apparently that's all changed now. If I was in the market now for a sub you can bet my wish list would include the Polk's.

On another note, do yourself a favor & check out the different sub EQ's that are out there. I know Doro has the SVS AS-EQ1 & really likes it, there's Velodyne's SMS-1 & also the DSPeaker Anti-Mode 8033 (these are the three that I looked into, there's others too). What fit my needs & pocket book was the Anti-Mode. It does a spectacular job! You can't go wrong with any of those units. Adding any one of these EQ units will boggle your mind as to how good your sub (subs) can perform. Just food for thought. Enjoy!!!

    Thanks for the reply pearsall001.

Do you use these bass processors ontop of the one that comes within the Micropro's? My processor does have Auddissy also. Running three might be a little much?

    Welcome,

The two Micropro 4000s should have enough Bass depending on how
Wild and Crazy you get on HT. With a room as large as your there are
other Subs with much more output that may be better, depending on
your taste. I've heard that the Micropro 4000s are very good on Music.

The Anti-Mode has me interested from an equipment standpoint, and the feedback here and elsewhere is very positive.
