Sorry to hear that. The company I work for doesn't tell people they are laid off until after they punch out, so don't feel alone. They think people will slack off for the rest of the day if they have any notice at all. I can't figure out why that would matter, if they don't need them anyway.

Slack Off?? You cant be that naive!

They think you will steal s@#t, call customers spreading bad rumors and take down the company's server

None of the employee's have access to the servers, except 2 of us in the IT department. There is really nothing of value for them to steal, even office supplies are locked up these days. Most of the employee's never have any contact with customers. But whatever you think.

Finally...something better came along. I'll be working at the Texas Transportation Institute. I'll be one of the business coordinators there, with a host of different responsibilities, which is good, as I like diversity. Anything from vouchers, to payroll, to paying bills on the business side of things, to directing student employees on other various activities, to setting up and providing technical support for their conference rooms. Its a branch off Texas A&M, so benefits are extremely good, pay is decent for my level of experience, but quite a bit more than I was making at State Farm...and at State Farm I had NO benefits, so thats a HUGE plus.

    Very excited, start Monday!

Thanks for the well-wishes guys. I really liked who I worked with before and I was worried I wouldnt find that same environment, but the people Ive met so far that I'll be working closely with all seem to be great people. And its a diverse job, so I like that.

My wife had a similar experience, but it was a part time job at an ice cream shop....but still. It was also a PITA to get her last check. Which is the same problem I've been having. I still haven't got my last commission check and its starting to piss me off as the agent SEEMS to be blatantly ignoring me. Its stupid, he's going to lose more commission off of my policies in a year (not to mention every year after that) than he would by just paying my check. Hopefully its a misunderstanding. I'll be calling up there Friday.

Seems like it! And I never had a problem with the agent, ever. I never thought I'd have to actually pursue a check from him...he always seemed like a stand up guy. And I still havent actually called him on the phone. I give people the benefit of the doubt that they forgot or there's a legit reason for not sending my check yet. And he's a pretty busy guy who can be hard to get a hold of sometimes, so I emailed him. Never heard back, waited a week, emailed him again, no response, waited another week, emailed him AND texted him to ask if he got the email (maybe it was getting sent to the spam folder or something) and got neither an email or a text back. I was getting frustrated and didnt really want to call until I got another job in fear of a prospective employer calling him for a reference on me and him not giving me a good review. I asked him when I left if I could list him as a reference and he said he'd be glad to, but now that hes not answering emails/texts about my paycheck, it makes me wonder.

I'm still not trying to burn bridges, but the reasoning behind this leaves me intrigued to say the least.

Oh, and you can send that longhorn shirt to the dump. Or give it to the homeless to stay warm, I'm sure itll work great as a fire starter

I had a collegue who went out and bought 200 Longhorn sweatshirts at Academy on closeout and he then went and prodeeded to donate them to the Houston Homless Shelter (nice tax write-off). Now there are 200 homeless people sporting Longhorn sweats near downtown Houston.
