There are plenty of options in the used market that would go further than the EMO for the same coin.

Thanks. I really like the Parasound 2205a. Problem is I am having a hard time attaining a used one for less than $900 dls. Then there's the issue of not having a warranty. Used amps may be durable, but there's always that slight chance of breakdown. At the moment it is somewhat difficult to find used Emo Xpa's. Does that speak to their dependabilty & performance, or something else...

Emo fans tend to stick to their Emotiva gear.

The other guys that do their research tend to go a different way....there are other options out there given your budget. And like I said with the proper research, those options could be even better than what you were originally looking for.

But if you're set on an XPA5, the Emotiva lounge would be your best bet finding one.

All of the recommendations will point you to Audiogon & the used market. If you are positive you want new then get the Emotiva.

I've had my XPA-5 for a couple years and keep up with resale prices. The XPA-5 is on sale right now and is going for about $30-$80 over used prices. Emo's 5 year transferable warranty keeps resale values very high. Buy a new one, free shipping to you, and send it back if you don't like it. Can't beat an Emo with a 5 year warranty for the price...especially on sale.

If you could stretch it a little to maybe 900, then looking at rotel 1095, b & k 200.5, I have seen some sunfire's( dont know the exact model) but 200x5 in this price range. Outlaw, Some used Nad gear and Parasound. Its alot of choices in the used market. But if new, You want find anything but the EMO XPA5 and its like 709 with free shipping right now new on their site.

With money being tight right now, buying an amp and having it need repair would suck. At my age, peace of mind is important.

Just a bit high? You stated a 700-800 price range and that Rotel easily fits your budget. Definitely something I'd recommend over the Emotiva, however if you're dead set on it grab a new one as RDB stated.

Edit: Just looked at their site, $709 holiday special with free shipping. No brainer.

I should clarify my statement, the Rotel is priced high compared to the prices I have seen online, fleabay etc. Couple that with no warranty and its a risk that I'm not gonna take. I know it sounds like a " no brainer" to buy the Emotiva, but Nonetheless I still value the expert opinions of my fellow polkies. If a 5 channel Rotel 1075 or Parasound 2205a became available for below $500, I think the great price would warrant taking a risk on it.

So you're only willing to buy a piece of gear used if it's at a good price? That good price being below its average (generally speaking, not specifically regarding the Rotel) going rate?

Could be that you've had bad experiences in the past, or could just be a lack of experience altogether but with some of the gear listed on the 'gon...the risk you're taking here is not giving a good piece of gear a chance in your own rig that could potentially be much better than the Emotiva.

This is your Wanted thread, so I'll stop while I'm ahead. But I just thought I'd open your mind up a bit and expand your options. I've sold my gear a couple times and it's always fun starting from scratch with something completely different than you had before.

Your looking for a needle in a haystack. A guy at another forum I frequent, did a shootout with the rotel 1075 and the xpa5. It is kind of emo country over there and so of course he said the emo won:eek:. As I told him and as I will tell you, there are no companes that compete with emo at their pricepoint new. Used is a whole different ball game. I buy used and have spent thousands on used amps and the most I have had go wrong is a blown fuse that is easily replacable. I suggest if you want a piece of mind and want to be the first to hook that baby up go emo and never look back, heck you might can call them and get a b-stock for less. If you want to advance in this hobby like I do, don't look at new and cheap being the best deal around. I rather buy used and get more for my money.

Respectfully, All very good points guys! I must admit that I lack the experience, having used Pioneer Avr Receivers all my life to power my polk rt's. The Lsi' s, as we all know demand a dedicated amp which brings me to the present. I will still be left wondering if my lsi's would sounded better with a different amp than the Emo. Which begs the question, does anyone in socal have a rotel or parasound that I can audition?

There are plenty of fine amps at audiogon.com . Look for Adcom 75xx series, parrasound, or B&K. Don't get too hung up on watts. 125wpc from any of the companies listed will drive LSi's no problem.

Down in So-Cal, you've got 2 major cities (San Diego and L.A.)...I'd suggest checking out hi-fi shops out there.

Look to see if any offer a 14-day type trial or something to try out in your own home before buying. When going with different amps, it's not only about 'wattage', it's about clean high-current and the characteristics that amp is known for (IE warm midrange/tight bass/dynamic/etc).

I will ask though, why must you buy it ASAP? If I were you, I'd use that money torwards a really good 2-channel amp for your main speakers alone (if you do 2-channel listening you'll thank me for it later) and go with an XPA-3 or some other 3-channel amp for your surrounds+center down the road when you scrape up some more dough.

Maybe a dumb question, but why is it a good idea to have a 2 channel amp for music listening? What is the advantage over a 5 channel amp?

    More headroom!!!

Plus, instead of getting an 'OK' multichannel amp for your entire setup...you'll have one really nice amp dedicated to your mains. The surrounds aren't as important so you can get by with an 'OK' 3-channel amp.

Why not take a look at the Emotiva UPA-5? It has the muscle, but of course it doesn't have the power the XPA does.
