Hello! I just replaced all my HT system, I came here looking/researching for nice speakers and everyone pretty much made up my mind by just reading your comments :) And you all were correct, I got the m70's, cs20 and lsi 100's along with a new/slightly used floor model Denon avr 4310ci for a great price. It sounds amazing and I thank you!
Now my question, in my old system I used a Definitive prosub 1000, but it has issues, it works but has a annoying radio interference type noise like bad am signal. It still does it on the new reciever so it must be trashed. What would you all suggest for a new sub? Would a psw505 be better than what i had or should i go for something nicer that wont break the bank?

Thanks,
Doc

Welcome to Club Polk doc5150

Interference in your sub does not mean it is gone. A little troubleshooting can lead you a long way.

Have you tried switching your sub cable (maybe defective and acting as an antenna)?

Is you sub cable crossing any other cables (picking up the interference from other cable)?

Isolate your sub from anything else and see if the interference is still there. If not (more likely) start reconnecting each pieces until noize reappear. Others will chime in with pointers.

As far as the 505, yes a good combo with your M70s.

Congrats on your new speakers

Its not the cable, all you have to do is plug in the power, in any room with nothing connected to it, turning either volume or crossover knobs make no difference.

does your sub have a ground pin on the AC cable ? If so try lifting the ground by using a cheater plug.

That would more likely apply for a ground loop I am not convince that it would help in this situation however, the OP has nothing to loose and potentially everything to gain.

I was wrong,it doesnt have a ground pin. Im guessing it has a problem with the electronics inside :(

I really have a hard time to conceive that. Take your time, don't give in so quickly (unless you are druling about a new sub and this is the perfect excuse )?

Are you confident opening the sub and taking a look inside? The only problem I could see inside the box is a potential wire or some of the sort that is un-hooked and act as an antenna  You mention the radio signal issue but also mentions it still works, has to be some simple....

Doesn't have a ground pin as never did or was removed?

He could also try grounding it himself with a small wire from the plate to the wall socket screw. Otherwise, pop the top and look under the hood.

Ok, added a ground and no change, even hooked it up to a different speaker. I disconnected the wired inputs, see no soldered areas on pcb that were loose. When I unplug the speaker its silent, wondering if the amp itself is doing it, doesnt change pitch or anything with volume or crossover knobs. Just realized it not shutting down with no signal after sittng there plugged in for awhile. I will keep looking :)

naa, the psw505, you can get one for about 200 or less if you catch it at the right time for a sale price on Newegg. The sub im trying to fix is a definitive prosub 1000.
