So I just called the guy and he agreed to hold this system he's got up for sale up until Friday.

I love vintage gear, however there are a few things to look out for if it's worth the buy or not. Anything I should look out for on an old Marantz 2220B integrated? Says everything works minus the AM/FM signal light.

The system also consists of some AQ interconnects, PSB speakers, a Denon player and speaker cable. All for $200. Just hoping he does hold on to them til Friday so trying not to get my hopes up too much.

Here are pics of the setup

Er, receiver. Been too much into the car thing lately.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll still pick it up so I'll just take a philips screw driver with me to check under the hood. What would be missing exactly (there a few things people gut out of this thing?).

missing boards..you may want to get some 'nudie' shots, on line of another 2220..that way you'll have an idea what a complete rcvr looks like..it is nice to see all of the lights lit. that is a sweet runner w only 20 wpc.. i don't know much abt the other equipment...

Will do, or if anyone wants to post shots of one it'd be appreciated.

I've had Denon players and always liked how warm they sounded, though the one included isn't anything special. May just give it away as well as the speakers. My main interest is in the receiver.

Before you get too excited, I hope you realize that's only 20w per channel on that receiver. Yes it is Marantz, but even they had low end models, and that's one of them. I see that it barely sells for $100 on Ebay (some much lower). That Denon isn't worth much now either, maybe $30-40. So, the question is, are those PSB speakers worth the difference? Do you know what model they are?

Also, any receiver that old will probably be due for some preventative work/maintenance. Power supply Re-cap, tuner alignment, pot cleaning, etc. If you do end up getting it, go look over at AudioKarma in their dedicated Marantz sub-forum. They might have some discussion on common problems with that model.

The tuner in that Marantz is 10 times better than that junk Parasound tuner. Parasound made/makes great amps and preamps, but their other products are largely failures.

You should alert more people to what you want to buy, before you buy it. If I had missed this on my CL it would gone by the time you arrived.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Lol.

It's a clean system, for sure. You're about $150 on the 2220B, $30 for the Denon, maybe an even Franklin on the PSB's, you should be able to get out of it if you hate it. I think everyone should have a silver faced Marantz, even if it's just for the guest bedroom or garage. It's a punch on your audio card. It's the poster child for an era of hifi.

    Cheers,

He deleted the ad immediately after I got off the phone with him. Can't ask for better can you?

I've always wanted a silver faced Marantz, hence asking about the unit. Will be picking this up tonight

Too bad I don't have a pair of vintage Polk Monitors to pair it with.

I know someone who might have a pair of Polk S6's for sale (not sure what price yet)...would those potentially interest you? They are not Monitors, but close....

I'll pass, would prefer to deal with someone locally. Thanks though.

Just got back from picking up the Marantz. Got it for alot less since I told the seller I wasn't interested in the speakers/speaker cable/interconnects/player. Well, he let me have the interconnects just for the heck of it so I'm pretty happy about my score. Will post pics up in a bit, wonder how they'll sound with the extra Paradigms I've got laying around

Figured a budget rig will keep me happy in the meantime since I've been focusing on my car. Tell you what though, I've got a kickass 2-channel system in my car and it sounds amazing!

Also forgot to mention, seller cleaned the volume pot (scratchy sounding when turning it up/down) as well as the inside of the receiver so it was in pristine condition. Much better than I had expected.

Anyone not too far from me have a CDP I can pair this thing with on the cheap? Maybe an older Sony ES model, Marantz CDP, Rotel or Denon?

The Marantz is making my Paradigm towers sing hooked up via Ben's silver speaker cables and MIT Shotgun S3 interconnects between a crappy cdp.
