The aesthetics are great and I think the wavering speed really adds something to his choice of music. I do wondering what he uses for fuel and how long it takes to build up a good head of steam?

I do believe Lirpa Labs had a steam powered tt back in the day. Prof. I Lirpa was a genius who was, like Tesla, widely underappreciated. Except on April 1st.

It does have a fantastic look, but a DC power supply seems less noisy overall...

He used a piston design instead of a turbine or rotary type engine. Also I did not see a precision regulator anywhere in there. With enough mass he should be able to get it to run somewhat smooth. That may require a larger boiler to keep up with the steam requirements.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

I kind of like the crudeness of it, I don't think I would want to clean it up.

How about discarding the tone arm and recycle the steam output to clean the record  also eliminates the cacophonie

I wonder if Lirpa Labs' chain-drive steam-powered turntable ever went into production?

Unfortunately, I believe Lirpa Labs is concentrating its corporate efforts into its new 4D Universal Player

We have steam radiators, so I already have a boiler plenty big enough.
    Maybe I should get one.
I might not want to run it in the summer, however, especially since we have no
air conditioning to counteract the steam heat that running the boiler would produce.

It's more than that, Russman: it is one of the "Tools of the Gods" !

    That ...... is ....... so ....... freakin' ........ awesome ........... :eek::eek:

Sure, "wow and flutter" levels might be a tad higher than one is used to.
Sure, the safety lifting while playing LP's might throw take a little getting used to.

But .... the Venus de Milo is missing some arms, yet it's a masterpiece even with all its "flaws".

The Youtube video of this gem in operation is here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSiVWkk5zaQ&feature=player_embedded#!

More info on build is here:

"...so I next moved onto how to measure and regulate the speed. For this I used some magnets, a coil as a pickup and an Arduino driving a servo to move the throttle to control the speed."

How to link for speed regulation here:

BTW, this guy's motto is pretty cool:
