AKG 240MK II or Grado 60/80Is

I am new to the head phone stuff. I bought the Senn 280 pro and the Audio Technica ATH 700 pro a few days ago. Yet they have not been break-in yet. Both are nice but both have flaws of them own.

I am looking for another type of sound that purely for fun and musical. The Senn is prettty neutral and a bit on the roll-off on HF and the response is very flat. The Audio Tech is a bit more detail on top end that I actually can hear Diana Krall voice in a very intimate way . I am happy with the purchase and will keep both for my audio listening.

I heard the Grado 60i/80i are very uncomfortable to wear but the sound is more forwarding and "fun". I am concerned abt the longevity in term of built quality of the Grado and the AKG as so many complaints by end-users.

While the HD 800 is my ultimated goal but current budget does not allow .
Please chime in. I am all ears.

I have a pair of Grado SR60's I bought about 10 years ago. They have flat foam that rests on the ear. I find them very comfortable and like that I can still hear someone talking to me when listening to music. They have proven to be very durable.

I am not sure this belongs in the for sale area. Are you selling your other headsets?

No, I bought them at a good price and they are here to stay with me. I have gave up listening to speakers via my rigs. Just some physical impairment that forces me to look for different alternative.

These Senn 280 pro and the Audio Technica 700 can be had for cheap at Musicians and Friends and mine are not for sales.

    Grado

    final decision !

Well, the issue with Grado s80I is there is 2 versions made by either Austria or China . I prefer something not made in China and no sellers can confirm which version they will ship.

As far as longevity, I have a pair of Grado SR80 that are 15 years old and still sound great. I replaced the flat pad (S cushion) with the cupped (L cushion) used on the SR225 and 325. It improved the sound and comfort. Don't expect them to seal out noise. They are very open. I like mine for listening at night when the kids are asleep and the house is quiet.

From their web site, "All of Grado's products are still proudly made in the USA (with the exception of the iGrado)". You should go to their website and check out their "Tour". It is a real mom-and-pop shop.

I'm a sucker for headphones. My oldest is a set of Stax sr-40's
from the 1970's. They still work fine.
    I've currently got Grado SR100, Senn HD650, Stax SR-40, SR-202, and SR-404
headphones. My list of previous models goes on and on.
anhchungdoan, are you in the greater Dallas area? There's a set of
    Senn HD650's on craigslist.

Thanks for the head-up with the HD650 but I am in the Hou/Katy area.

I am torned between the AKG 701 and the HD600 but more likely I will go with the HD595 due to limited budget during Xmas...I will need to get something for my 2 sons too .

Watch for a head-fi meet and go listen to all of them with quality
amps and sources. The DFW one normally is late January or early
February. There is often one in Austin or Houston as well.

Thank you for the info. I have found the HD598 @ J & R for a decent price and I am abt to hit the check out button.

The HD 598 could be a nice collection item and the reviews are excellent too.
