Been surfing for bluray deals - was looking at some Bond movies....stumbled over to bluray.com and saw a sales page with top deals.

Firefly is #4

Kinda nice to see it still surging strong!

Yeah, I love all the people who keep saying "it was canceled because no one watched it!". It's fairly obvious that there wasn't an issue with viewers.

Best TV series (sci-fi) in the past couple decades imo.

It really was one of my favorite shows ever, and I'm not a fan of Jos Wheaton's other work...

It was cancelled in what...late 2002?

So, 8 years later, the series is selling in the top 5 for blu ray?

Definitely one of the better sci fi shows to ever air. I came to the series late myself after it was cancelled.

Oh well...back to our regularly scheduled program....

Actually, it is not obvious at all. Even the movie flopped in the theater. I never watched it, but I own the series on DVD, and movie on both DVD and BR. Word of mouth, along with the Internet alerting people to the show is what appears to be driving the sales.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

The film was released in North America on September 30, 2005 by Universal Pictures. It received generally positive reviews and opened at number two, taking in $10.1 million its first weekend, spending two weeks in the top ten, and totaling a domestic box office gross of $25.5 million and a foreign box office gross of $13.3 million.

While it's true that it wasn't a "box office smash", I certainly wouldn't say it "flopped in the theater".

You're right about word of mouth and internet driving up sales. It shows that if Fox had given Firefly a chance (and aired the episodes in the right order), they could have had an extremely successful series on their hands.

I was curious, so I "googled" Serenity and unforunately, it barely recouped its projected costs (around $39 million) in the theather..

and when I looked at what movies premiered its same week, they were not powerhouse movies.. Wallace and Gromit and the Pacino classic Two for the money haha

Sadly, that's definitely in the "flop" category. At least its doing well in DVD/Bluray now and it was a good movie...

Actually, it's spiking in sales because it's the blu-ray box set deal of the week. 72% off. Old titles often spike when Amazon throws them in the bargain bin. Not a knock on the series, just what happens with heavily discounted titles.

    Perhaps.

Could be some are doing a blind buy, some because of friends recommendations, or some double dipping to bluray to dump their dvd set.

    Whatever - good for Firefly.

Like I said, it pretty much happens to every box set deal of the week regardless of title. At this price point I was thinking of snagging one too. $25 is a no brainer for even casual fans of the series to pile in before it goes back up to $55+.
