Monitor Series

I was supposed to buy a pair of SDA's two months ago but the seller backed out.
I just found a pair of Monitor 7b's and a pair of Monitor 5's for $120 on CL. Would these be considered an upgrade over my RT speakers? There's nothing wrong with my setup but have always wanted to try the older Polks. If I bought them, they would be used mostly for movies. Thanks.

I'd stick with what you have now. That's a nice setup even if the RT isn't my favorite series.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks for the help. For the price, I may go ahead and snag them and use them in the bedroom, fiance permitting.Display: Sony 42" LCD

Nice setup. I own all of the speakers you mentioned. The Monitor 7 with a sub would be a worth while project in your HT, or try them in the rear, replace the RT5's. For sure which ever ones your bedroom do it and have some fun. I don't think either or on there own would replace the RT1000's
I have a pair of RT1000 a friend gave me when he moved out of state. I prefer my Rt16's over the 1000. I did move the 1000's to the rear and it is awesome. I see your point in trying some older speakers. That bug is what it is all about. May I suggest if you wanted to do something in your HT, buy some RT800i's for the front and a PSW 505 sub (they are readily available at a great discount online) or an Epik sub or one of the many others recommended on this forum by Polkies depending on your budget. If you have the space try the 1000's in the rear.System:

For my ear, where the vintage polks really excel is music. I'd leave your current HT setup alone, and then start a 2-channel music rig for the 7's.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Cheif, I've been looking for the 800's but haven't come across any locally yet. I would definitely appreciate the extra midrange driver. When I do come across a pair, the 1000's will get moved to the back.
Falcon, that's what I'm going to do. For the seller's asking price on the 7's, it's hard to pass them up. I'll have to wait until after Christmas however to purchase the rest of the gear. What kind of gear would you recommend for them?
Thanks again..Display: Sony 42" LCD
