Seller is Asking $850 about a year old. Anything else I should look at for mostly music? How do I check them out properly (I don't have a speaker mechanic nearby)

Thx

$850 used is way too high. You can typically pick these up in the FM for about $550 shipped.

Lots of other choices for music. I have the 9's for music and like them. It really depends on your music taste and budget.

Besides physical damage you need to listen to them to tell whether or not there is damage. If you are curious as to their sound then you need to do critical music listening. Lots of variables here to be able to test out at a seller's home.

Yes, thats way too much for used ones. Maybe new in box, but definetly not used. Try polk audios ebay auctions. Where you at? P.s Polk will not warranty speakers to anyone but the original buyer with a valid receipt from an authorized dealer. Just f.y.i.

    Too high, pass.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Middle of no where Ohio. The seller is about an hour out.

So what is a reasonable used price. Anything else I should look at. The TV repair guy mentioned Polk but he said he does TV's so it goes with a pinch of salt.

I just sold my barely used LSi9's for $500/shipped about a month ago on here. I wouldn't call that the always found average but thats where you should be looking. I'd say $650 maximum for a used pair.

Wow Doro! That was an excellent price.

    Habanero,
Try to talk him down to the 600 range. I know a lot of sellers don't like to lower their price, but like others have mentioned, 850 is way too high. You might as well buy a new pair for about $100 more.
If you decide to buy them from him, make sure you can check them out and demo first to make sure they're working fine and in good condition. You can always check craigslist also.

I paid $500 plus shipping a year or two ago for an pair in excellent condition. Agree with everyone else...$850 is too much.

I think I recall Polk selling the LSi 9s for $699.00 via their official eBay store. None are listed for sale now. Just keep checking. You get a warranty and great customer service and support.

I recently purchased a sub from the eBay store. The shipping box was trashed, but the sub itself was in brand new condition.

There's someone selling LSi9's on the FM for $400 and you have to pay shipping. Shipping is probably around $75. Go grab those!

I grabbed the ones in the FM, great price and seller. They should be here thursday according to Fedex.

To address the OP, as it's been said, $850 is overpriced for a used pair. You should be able to find them in the $500-650 range. Check the usual's, eBay, Audiogon and craigslist. You may also want to post a wanted thread in the WTB section.

Thx for the info. Will keep looking. Someone also suggested some Infinity Classica 336 for around my budget.

A plus with the 336s (a rather mundane plus) is no need to purchase speaker stands.

Check out the Monitor 70's at newegg.com when they are blowing them out you can get a pair for less than $400. I haven't had a chance to A/B them against the 336's though.

I have a budget that I would like to stick to ($600-$700 if I can). The monitor 70's look nice for the price. I am sure either would be an improvement .

Maybe add some subs later. I agree with the comment about built in speaker stands. I looked at decent ones from Best Buy and that would add another $100-$160. It is difficult because I can not compare speakers.

I am the typical customer: I want 100% of the features at zero % of the cost.

Love your Nick. Have you tested the bhut jokokia??? Way tasty HOT! So what size room, digital or analog source, amplifier you plan to use? If you are not in a rush there is a lot of info in this forum and not just Polk experience. You can see by my profile I have read around here for only one year. I put together a 2 channel SDA 2B, nad 2600 amp, and adcom 565 pre amp together for about 550. Using craigslist and the fleamarket. Good luck on your shopping

Thx. That is what I get for stuffing those big Sicilian Olives with Habanero's in your morning robe and slippers. After a month of pickling it's like a 12 gauge shot gun going off in your mouth (both barrels). Love em.

Haven't tried the bhut jokokia. My fave line of sauces is the Iguana line. Yummy.

Room is 12X17. Sounds like a lot of stuff for 550. I don't have much as of yet.

If any of you see a good pair of LSi 9's for a fair price let me know. I have started looking at the for sale section here. I am just going to be patient and I am sure they will show up.

Also been doing some reading and wondering about the cross over upgrades for this unit? People really think it makes a real improvement. Any idea of current cost?

    Upgrade costs....

look at posts around #71 (mmadden28's post) of this thread:

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71515&highlight=upgrade&page=3

If you can't solder there are people around here that can do it. I think the total with parts and labor is around $400-$450.

Thanks for the links! I read through and I am not sure what is what. Some one posted that the parts cost them around a buck thirty five? Is that for everything or one speaker.

I like the idea of getting something to start and then being able to move it on up in the future.
