Home Theater will these components and room be a good match?

Hi Guys, this is my first post and I hope I am not asking too much or in the wrong place!

I have been reading and reading but I am not certain if I am making a good choice here, so I am asking for any recommendations on equipment or expertise advice.

I attached a diagram of my Family room.This is where I will be putting my television. The equipment will be in another room. The family room is 15'-4"x22'-2" with two open walls. So it's not ideal.

I already have two Polk TC80i's where the rear speakers will be.
What I was thinking of was:
Adding 3 Polk Audio TC80i for Left Right and Center
Onkyo TX-NR5008
I don't know what Sub
OPPO BDP-83 BLU-RAY
Roku XDS
Samsung 55" UN55C6900
Logitech Harmony 1100

Any advice on any of the equipment would be helpful. I don't know much except what I have read.

I found a lot of people recommending HSU subs. Would the ULS-15 be able to fill the room, give the size and open walls? or would it be more than I need?

Also look at Epik subwoofers they make great products at a outstanding price.

Thanks, I am looking at them now. I also found some recommending Rythmik. If anyone has owned one of these, it would be great to get some feedback.

My experience with Epik and the quality of their product has been, well..................epic!

I bought their Valor a couple of years ago and it's a great performer; their newer stuff reviews just as well.

I remember reading that one chap had 4 Conquests in his setup; probably caused a tidal wave somewhere

Hey thanks! Yeah 4 that would probably fill my room no problem but seriously, how much do power do I need for about 3,000 square feet? I don't want to overpower my speakers.

I was in the market for a sub as well. I was researching between the Epik Legend, HSU ULS-15, and Rythmik F15, F15HP, and E15.

Thanks for those links, there is a lot of information!
Something I just read from in one of those post was that for a room about my size to choose a 15" sub over a 12"-" if you think you might be crossing over above say 80Hz (due to small woofers in the mains) and music listening is very important to you

I think you meant a 12" woofer should be used rather than a 15" woofer when crossing over 80hz.

I have a sub in my living room, it is a smaller room. The sub rumbles when turned up rather loud, but doesn't pressurize the room.

I'm not sure how to get that pressure at all and in a larger room.
Use more power?
12'' or 15"
Use two Subs?
Better quality is the only thing I am certain of.

Rythmiks are pretty well known for the sound quality due to their servo technology, but not so much for their output. With that being said, they now have the F15HP and E15 that have 600w amps...but it appears that their frequency range won't extend to your speakers frequency range, which would leave a noticeable gap in your music.

In my humble, and non-expert opinion, I would think you would need one high powered 15" sub, or two 15" subs to get adequate pressurization for that room with a lot of amp output. Because you have such small speakers that don't reach down very low, here's another option besides two 15" subs:

Get a mid-bass module and one 15" sub to essentially break up the lower and sub-mid frequency range. HSU offers this option:

Have you thought about SVS? I don't know your price range, or how big the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is, but they're pretty well known for HT output. If you're still stuck on the sealed design, here's one of their offerings:

I'm surprised no one has chimed in since yesterday. Usually more experienced members will throw their two cents in, especially when it comes down to subs.

Anyways, take my advice with a grain of salt, as I've never heard ANY of these subs (yet). I'm simply regurgitating what I've read. I'm sure all be corrected...which is a good thing.

You know, I just re-read this thread and will throw a more specific idea your way.

If I had that big of a room, I would probably look at either two Rythmik F15s or ULS-15s. The Rythmik F15 has a new amp, which will let you get higher into the frequency range - so will the ULS-15. Usually when you up (crossover) the frequency range above 80hz, you'll get localization, which will enable you to locate the sub. But, with two subs you shouldn't have that problem.

The Rythmiks will edge out in sound quality.

The HSUs will edge out in output, or pressurization.

Both appear to be great subs. Have you thought about giving any of the Internet Direct (Epik, SVS, Elemental Designs, HSU, Rythmik), or even Polk, a call? Those are the real experts and might be well worth the time.

Thanks, you've been a lot of help. SVS AND Hsu have gotten good reviews on a lot of sites.
Maybe I should look at different speakers for the front, rear and center. I am stuck with in ceiling, yeah the WAF, but a sub I can get away with.
My budget may take a hit because I need some one to come in and help with running wiring through my ceiling and wall.
I am starting with nothing, except the two rear speakers that are there and I have about $10,000 left in my budget since I already bought the TV

No worries, Moe.

Whatever you're left with the budget, I'd get the biggest, baddest sub for that big room of yours.

Stick around and throw some pics up when your finished -- I'm sure it will look (and sound) amazing, especially if you're hanging around here and other forums to pick up information.

***Just looking around and found this nice little sub from FunkyWaves (Canadian). Can't find any numbers, but I'd assume one of these, or the 18" would give some good pressurization.
