Not a good idea to mix & match subs. Best to go with 2 that are the same.

Agreed don't mix. I have two PSW505s at the current price might as well buy another. Hard to find something at $400 to beat the combo. Some $600 subs would probably beat the pair out though.

In a pure 2 ch system with a dedicated sub for each channel you probably don't want to use two different subs. In a home theater it's really not a problem. It will take some work to get the phase settings right so you aren't cancelling out bass, and it will take some work to get them dialed in. I have always had different subs in the front and rear of my HT and it works just fine.

I concur with 2 different subs is doable for theater use (not for stereo as mentioned above for obvious reasons)

some say stacked is right, some say opposite corners. who is right? both, and no one. the real answer is it depends on the room.

2 different subs is great if you got the 2 for a great price or used and it is what you have to work with, though should not be a goal. Finding what works best with 2 subs can be a major pain in the nuts. I say the best starting point is stacked, then play from there.
