Short story first of all.

Was unemployed for 3.2 years was laid off from a maintenance mechanic job that was paying pretty good money.

Anyway after not finding any good job out there I went to college two years ago for a Computer Science and Networking major. At the same time I was trying to get my foot in the door for a computer job as well. No one wanted me because of no on the job training just personal experience.

Well a month ago my neighbor calls me wh I am good friends with both of them. Great friends you could even say, they have seen me grow up and call me their son in some ways. She tells me the health care company she works for is looking for a IS guy as a temp. She tells me to apply and she will put in a good word for me. I will note at this time that she is the Vice President of human resources. So after applying for the job and waiting two weeks I get a call offering me the job.I accept and start work. Two weeks later the love my personality and my work ethic and how I am dedicated and how I love my work. 4 days ago they offer me the job as a permeant which some people siad it was going to happen but I was not going to hold my breathe.

So now here I am with my dream job 4 weeks later and can not wait to walk into work everyday.

I am trying to figure out something to do to thank my neighbor as I can not even think of anything big enough. It is hard enough to get your foot in the door but here I am with my dream job making good money going to be made permeant Monday. Suggestions?

Talk to your neighbors spouse or children & see if there is something she has a passion for that you could get her.

If there is an issue of impropriety since she's VP of HR, make it an anonymous gift~

Two weeks later they love my personality and my work ethic and how I am dedicated and how I love my work.

What's cool, and it speaks to the type of person you are, is that you don't even realize that you've already given them one gift by returning their trust in you with hard work, dedication, and personality.

That is more uncommon than common in today's world.

But ... it would be a nice gesture to give them a gift as a "Thanks".
Can't think of anything right now, but something of a personal nature from you sounds right.

Maybe a gift certificate for a deluxe spa treatment or something along those lines? Don't know too many people who'd turn that down!

Congrats on the job, BTW
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    Congratulations to you !

It is nice to hear good news for a change.

I agree that a simple sincere thanks (HAND written card for example) is the best
to avoid any possibility of misinterpretation.

VP HR.... I'm sure they know already

Congrats. A GC to a nice restaurant would be nice. And +1 to it being anonymous. Don't want to lose what you got, over some ethics issue.

A nice Thank You card would suffice. Be careful with gifts as that could be frowned upon. Just go to work, do a good job and let her know she made the right decision. That would go further than a gift. BTW, Gift cards suck in that situation, too impersonal.

Over the years I have recommended several "freinds" for jobs at different places & I was let down on more than one occasion.
If you show up to work every day, work hard & never, ever give her a reason to regret her decision, that would probably mean more to her than just about anything else.
    Good luck & congrats!!!
