What sub would go good with this setup?

Hello, I really don't like the way my psw 450 sub sounds. I would really like a sub that matches my setup and has good thump, with deep, solid, clean, crisp sound. The psw 450 sounds mushy and hollow, I'm not sure what words to use to describe it, I just know it dosn't sound that good and its been like that since I've had it, theres nothing wrong with the speaker, that's just the way it sounds.

My setup is a Onkyo 1008 pushing 2 rt1000I front towers, a csi30 center channel, 2 fxi30 bi/di pole surrounds, 2 rti70 rear surrounds and the psw450 sub. My tv is about 8 ft in front of the couch with the towers on either side and the center is underneath the fireplace mantle and the tv is above, the towers and center are also about 8 ft away. The sub is off to my left about 8ft between 9-10 with the the surround at 10-11 o'clock about 6 ft up on the wall, the tv is 12 o'clock for reference. The other surround is at 4-5 o'clock on the wall and the rear surrounds are behind the couch about 10 feet away at 6 o'clock.

What is a good polk sub that would match my system and cost me under $500. My speakers are from around 2005 I believe, i bought them used. The look of the sub isn't as important as how it sounds but I would like it to match up somewhat aesthetically. All my speakers are black also.

Any help, input, comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much guys.

From my limited experience, it's always good to have your fronts, rears, and center to be timbre matched. Subwoofers on the other hand don't necessarily need to be timbre matched since their utilizing a completely different frequency range.

Since your speakers are black, your options are pretty much limitless.

It's a MUCH better subwoofer than your current subwoofer and the best lineup that Polk has had in many years.....if not more than a decade.

I would move your RTi70's to the front with your sub and put the RT1000's in the rear. I haven't heard a PSW450 and it may be the weak link, but I am going to say the RT1000's are the weak link.
I love using the powered towers in the rear as it is like having bookshelf speakers and two small subs in the rear. I find the RT1000's to have a gap in the lower mid/ upper bass. The RTi70 towers will offer a much fuller sound up front.
When comparing my RT1000's to my RT16's in two channel I thought the Rt16's sounded much better, even though there was a little more bass in the 1000's a sub will take care of that. I would think that the RTi70's would compare in the same manner. When you have some time may I suggest that you do a comparison up front of the two towers with some music. I would be surprised if you do not find what I have found. I would test with and without the sub.
The DSW is for sure some of the best subs Polk has made. The PSW505 can be had online at half the price of the DSW600. I guess rather or not it is half the sub is up to the listener.

The PSW505 is actually one of the better subs from that series(slot loaded), of that time, so I agree Chief. As far as overall performance, totally different but a solid suggestion. Even the DSWPro 400 would be a better choice. They really did a very good job with this new series.

Another cool baby subwoofer is the PSW-111. Great choice for small applications...computers or bedroom for example, although I think it might be discontinued.

The tweeter on your CSi30 is not matched to your RT1000's where it is matched with your RTi70's

I own two 505's so I am biased. They work well for now I am happy with them. I read in a thread where one Polkie replaced his 505 with a DSW500 and thought it was better. I have two HT rooms so someday I will try something else. I did try a PSW303 and it was a distant shadow to the 505.

Someone listed a PSW111 on ebay today for like $40 BIN something stupid cheap.

That series is also unique since it didn't use the usual, patented Power Port technology that almost every other subwoofer did before and after. It actually shows the change in the engineering area of Polk Audio itself, at that time. Anyways, yes, it's a cool subwoofer and the 505 is the standout of that series and beyond the 303 for sure. Is it a wall crusher? No, but it's solid.

It took Polk a long time to figure all that out thanks to folks like Mark Suskind, among many others, and while they still won't commit to a ridiculous heavy hitter....the ability has always been there. Polk and SVS, for example, are different companies and have different markets. For now, every one sub SVS sells, Polk sells 1,000. Not everyone needs a barnstormer. I've owned 5 SVS subwoofers and loved every single one of them...will continue to do so. What's tricky is that neither market is viable to one another so while Polk COULD make an "SVS", one it's not worth it from an R&D and production standpoint but also the market is simply solid with manufacturers like SVS...HSU...Elemental, etc. There's simply not a reason to do so anymore. I say kudos to SVS and Polk. Each company caters to who they need to do so, which is why they are both successful.

Ugh, rambling just to ramble, sorry. Useless information. Good luck in the subwoofer hunt Joey!!!

That's crazy for the PSW111....is it gone? Link? That's even cheaper than I can get it for.

ThAnks eveybody, good suggestions, I havnt checked any out yet il get back to you and let you know. I'm also going to try to switch my rti 70's and 1000's. I had the 1000's with my original 5.1 setup and I found the 70's for ridiculous cheap and they matched my setup so i picked them up. Is been wanting to do a 7.1 also.

It cost much more than what you're wanting to pay but I'm using a Velodyne 10 with my B$W 803 Matrix fronts and it amazingly clear and very tight. It's one of the few subs I tried that works with music as well as HT.
