I dunno. I paid $50ish for a 500GB drive. I don't think that can get me a lot of storage space in a SSD.

It'll get you around 30-40GB SSD.

Well the point is to put your OS and applications on it, not your data. Windows will certainly fit on 40GB.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Boot the second drive and use the windows account migration tool. It's on the CD. It'll create an export of all your folders and any software windows recognizes, then you run it again on the new install and point it at the file it created. It'll then import everything.

Not sure I see what's the benefit of that. I can reload windows as many times as I need. What really need to be protected is the data, not the OS & applications. So why spend in a SS drive for the OS? Or am I missing something here?

I don't mean anything. Just saying that I don't see the point of spending extra in a SS drive to keep the OS and other applications that can be easily loaded anytime.

It's mostly based on a productivity mind-set. With an SSD, an average install of Win7 will load from bios to usable desktop in around 27 seconds (depending on bios). All programs will load and run faster, including web browsers.

For the average Joe, it's probably too expensive. But the SATA standard isn't going anywhere for several years, which means that the SSD can be moved from computer to computer while keeping it's speediness.
