Tweak habits...........
I put together a 3rd system today with components I was not using.
I could not help but notice the tweaks I incorporated out of habit:
The system:
Rotel 960bx (60w) amp
B&K Ref 20
Pioneer DVD w/usb input
PSB Alpha B1's
Yamaha 8" servo sub
Auricle Dig. Sig. 1.5m
Auricle Kapton Rca's
Nordost flatline spkr cables
Rapport sub IC's
OCC 12/3 pc w/Oyaide connectors on Ref 20
P&S 5262 recept (brand new not broken in) on dedicated 20 amp w/12ga romex.
Adcom ACE 515 conditioner
ELCHEAPO TWEAKS USED:
Hubbell Hospital grade (8215C) 3 prong connectors (On Rotel & DVD) used on all (original) 2 prong plugs.
Brass rca caps on all unused inputs (Pre & DVD)
Raquet balls cut in half to support components
Lg. rubber bands to suspend speaker cables from floor (mounted to back wall)
3/4" MDF platform with spikes for the sub
The tweaks add up!
This is a BS system I put together because I got sick of this stuff laying around not being used.
I plan on using this system for my computer system but lack a DAC at this time.
I have to say this system is pretty damn good considering the price, and that these components were laying around unused.
I am sure when the P&S recpt. gets some more hours on it, it will sound even better.
Listening to some Roy Orbison right now & have to say this system is pretty spacious (tweaks?).
Ya got any cheap tweaks?

Upgrade the caps in the hi pass section of the Alpha's xover and clean and condition your connectors with Deoxit/Deoxit Gold or Stabilant 22.Thats all I have for you.

Most inexpensive USB capable DAC's use a BB 27** series IC for the USB data that limit their resolution and are jitter prone.There are however some budget DAC's that use a better method of data transmission protocol(asynchronous).Musiland and the ones in this link are some examples of the latter.Any cheap USB DAC recommendations for this system?

Thats the original,I believe only the mark II version (linked to in post #6) operates in the prefered asynchronous mode. -
Heres alittle problem I think I may have with external DACS.
I have a B&K Ref 20 (20bit) & Ref 30 (24bit/96), and Atoll PR5.1 (Burr Brown 24 bit/96).
Wouldn't I be "stacking" dac's considering I need a pre to run my amps?
From External DAC to the Pre's dac?
All the above have as good or better Dac's than most externals.
Dac to the pre's dac?
Doesn't add up to me?
What am I missing other than the USB input?
