Polk Monitor 60s or 40s?
Been several months (~9) since ive been on and posted anything. But of course its that time again and have the urge to add to my HT. Right now running the same setup for the past 9 months, M70 fronts, Cs2, M40 rears, PSW505, slimline PS3, 55" Samsung 240 hz LED, vsx 1019ah-k with 12 gauge wire. Recently moved and have a little bit better of a chance to run 7.1 now. My question is for the price that the 60s are going for on newegg are they to good to pass up?
1)If i did this, what would be the best set up for it? put the 60s as the surround, and the 40s as the rear surround or swap and put the 60s in the back and leave the 40s as they are currently?
2) Dont go with the 60s and just stick with 2 pairs of the 40s for the surround and back surround?
-If it turns out to be too cramped or not sound as well it would give me a good excuse to start on my second system (bedroom) - another reason I was thinking about the 60s over the 40s.
I have a bad itch to get a new 3d tv but just got mine less than a year ago so will hold out for at least another year before seriously start to look again.
-However am looking to upgrade on the AVR. Any suggestions? Would like it to be 3D and under $1500. Looked at the Pioneer Elite SC-37 and a few others. Where are the best places to look for them at the best prices? I thought i was going to luck out and get it for a steal at bestbuy cause i found one on the 60% off sale rack and when i asked about the price and to buy it the guy said they made a mistake and it wasnt on sale and for the mistake could take 5% off :frown: haha..
Know its a lot but any help would be great and thanks!

Would suggest sticking with 2 sets of the 40's for surrounds. You wont gain much with the 60's and they cost more.
You can also wallmount the 40's using AM Pinpoint40 mounts to save yourself some space and cash since good speaker stands are not always cheap...
Regarding receiver's, whichever you get ensure you get one with pre-outs. I personally dont get 3-D's point just yet and wouldnt purchase a 3-D receiver just for the 3-D aspect. Also look for one with Audy-see Multi-EQ. This allows you to configure your setup automatically and include the sub in the calculations.
Beyond that if you can get a decent used receiver (Denon, Onkyo) with the Audy-see Mutli-EQ for a decent price you might want to step up into a dedicated amp (used would have the best value) for your front three speakers (using your 1500 dollar budget this should be super easy to accomplish with money to spare). That would be the next logical step to me. Your surrounds normally dont draw enough power to need a dedicated amp, whereas your front three do and will benefit from it greatly."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Thanks for the help and going to take your advice and go with the 40s. Couple things real quick -
1. Have 12 gauge wire currently running the 5 speakers - not going to be able to run the wire in wall so will have to be run along baseboards and along wall corners to hide the wire as best as possible. Based on this, was going to try to limit wire and use the in monoprice in wall wires (4 strand model). Would it make much difference running 14 gauge wire vs the 12 ga like I have with the others?
2. What is a good price for the am pinpoint 40 mounts? Best price I've seen right now looks to be about $59 on amazon. Any suggestions where to get them or any other cheaper places out there?

1) Thats fine, it wont make any difference:
2) Thats about baseline for them. Keep in mind thats for 2 so your really paying about 25 per mount which isnt too bad (speaker mounts cost more than that normally)"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Got the speakers and mounts in the past couple days...now just waiting on monoprice to get my wires here. Couple questions:
1. With the pinpoint mounts, did you use the screws to secure the speaker? I know its not going to go into the main area of the speaker and just the outer casing, but just hate to put holes in my brand new toys..haha..
2. About how far behind should the speakers be? currently have the sides on tables directly across from where we sit. For the back surrounds i will have 1 very large wall and 1 wall about 3 feet of room to mount on. I could mount the back on the large wall as close as about 4 feet from the main listening area and as far as about 10-12 ft (would leave about 5-6 feet between the 2 backs).
Any suggestions would be great and much appreciated!

If im correct theres not much of a price difference atm on newegg between the 60's and 40's atm, its kinda a no brainer imo to go with the 60's for 20-30$ more, i could be wrong though havent been on there in a few days.
But i think these guys are right, ur surrounds dont play a broad spectrum of sound or produce a lot of punch so u probly wouldnt see a difference in 40-60B&W CM10 Mains, Monitor 40 Surrounds, B&W Cm Centre, PSW 125 sub/ CV 10" sub, Marantz 7701 Processor, Carver M4.0T, Carver 705x 5 channel, 60'' Sharp LED, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Sonos, and of course my trusty laptop for hi res ( for now) -

I didnt use the screw's but used some velcro on the bottom of the speaker. Some folks also used blue tack and it worked as well.2. +1 on the velcro. I was thinking about that and glad that I dont have to put holes in my speakers.
Thanks for the help and will be going with the DTS-HD Master Audio/True HD setup. Gonna map it out and try to get as close to 60 degrees as I can. Any suggestions to how high they should be mounted up on the walls? 9 ft ceilings and would like to leave room so when people walk in the room the dont hit their heads on them..haha."C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS"

What's the basis of your agenda? Did a Polk tower tip over in your childhood home and crush your kid brother?"I did not slap you. I high-fived your face." -
