New computer speakers
I am considering picking up either the polk monitor 30 or monitor 40's for my new computer speakers. I currently have an onkyo tx-sr876 receiver in my room which I could attach those speakers to my zone 2 connectors. Or else I might pick up a separate receiver to attach the bookshelves to and using my subwoofer for both receivers. Does anyone have thoughts on either setup or which speakers I should pick up? Thanks in advance.

I would be connecting it with optical if I got a separate receiver for it. However if i were to go the zone 2 route, I would have to go with analog. Because I read that zone 2 can only accept an analog signal.

Not quite sure how you could use your sub with two different receivers. You would have to switch connections between them when you want to use the sub with one or the other.
Using 1 receiver is best, but dont know if you use Zone 2 on the Onkyo if it will allow you to still use the sub connected to Zone 1.
I would suggest two separate independent systems myself but that seems like a waste of money since you already have one system in your room. Maybe just purchase the 40's and instead of using Zone 2 use Surround Back L/R and then set the audio layout for the computer input to only use the Surrounds L/R input w/ the sub? You would need to disable Surround Back L/R for all other inputs as well....
That will only work of course if your only using 5.1 for everything else
Can you maybe post a picture of your layout for us?"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I can't post a picture unfortunately since I am away from home. However I can describe the setup.
Essentially in my bedroom I have two monitor 70's, along with a 42" plasma, a cs2 center channel, and an onkyo tx-sr876 receiver along with a polk micropro 1000. To the right of that I have my computer, in which I would like to have two monitor 40/30's running off the tx-sr876 if possible.
You mentioned that I could change the audio layout for different sources. How is that possible? So, if I were to connect the monitor 40/30's to the L/R surrounds, wouldnt they be allocated to surround duty even when passing my pc audio to the receiver? Or will I be able to change it allowing me to to turn off the front L/R and center and have the monitor 40/30's connected to the L/R surrounds output as L/R fronts? If this is possible, how would I go about doing this? I know a bit about receivers, but I am by no means adept at configuring them.
Thanks for the suggestions! -
Haha, unfortunately dont think that will fit in my room! -
I was wondering if I did decide to go for two separate receivers, and decided to use an rca y cable splitter to send two feeds to the subwoofer. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021803&p_id=663&seq=1&format=2
Unless the 47 Hz freq on the monitor 40's is sufficient for strong bass music without a subwoofer. I listen to alot of trance.
Also if I am sitting fairly close roughly a foot away from the speakers, would they be fine for watching movies as well since I wont have a center channel specifically for dialogue. -

He's not joking and it's not that big. For $40 it's a no brainer. Truely a multi-purpose rig.
