So I just bought a use Ionic Breeze and got it in the mail today. Plugged it in and had weird noises so I cleaned the blades but still had noise.

I than read this and decided to try it.
http://www.fixya.com/support/t2813800-ionic_breeze_gp_s1830_makes_sizzeling

I did not scrape the cones but just wiped them down.

Most of the noise is gone but the sound I hear now is like a slow leak out of a air hose. Is this a normal operating noise?

Also the smell coming out does not smell like a rain storm I can not really describe the smell. Anyone know if this is normal?

We have several Ionics bought new since my son is allergic to various things.

So what does it sound like when it is on? Can you hear air coming through?

There is a very slight hum
but it is not noticeable across the room.

We plan on getting a whole house air filtration unit
    when the budget gets there

Ah, it seems to be getting more silent as time goes on. I also think that it just needed to be cleaned and gave some time to work in the room a bit. Will see later tonight.

    by the way
if you have an air compressor ( some vacuum cleaners you can use the exhaust )
using some pressurized air to "blow out" some of the dust is helpful.
and don't use any solvents at all.

    good luck.

Seems that the cleaning and waiting worked. Can not even hear it really and the slight hum is what I hear now. Smells better now to.

The fins have to be totally dry too before turning on after cleaning. I have one and even though it's silent, it's not very good in a mid to large room. Mainly because it's poor at moving air. Sometimes it makes noise when it's dirty, and sometimes it makes noise when it's not completely dry.

Ya I got it to help with dust from getting on the ML's and to help make the room smell better which is a plus.

I've got two ionic breeze towers and a prozone....
The ionic breeze towers make that hissing sound sometimes, it goes away if you clean it and wait. Make sure the wires are absolutely clean and the blades are totally dry.

The prozone box...is a godsend. Kills odors faster than anything!
