I'm a complete newb and need advise on purchasing a new sub. I'm currently running a psw650 that is 10 years old. Ii just recently purchased a new Yammy receiver new fronts and rears.I'm wanting a Micropro 4000 but I'm not sure if it will be much of an upgrade. Or should I go for it.

Thanks very much.

    Welcome to CP.

Budget, room size and listening habits (% HT vs music) will help us better recommend a sub for your app.

As far as budget goes, I can afford a Micropro 4000.
Usage will be a mix of home theater, music and gaming (ps3).
The room is a carpeted living room in an apartment that is approx. 13' x 18' with 8' ceilings with a walk through to another room.

    Thanks again.

I should say that I would prefer the bass suited more towards home theater and that I like tight strong bass that can be felt as opposed to boomy or rumbley bass.

    Thanks again

Should also add that the fronts are Tsi500 the rears are Tsi400 and center is cs10 for now.

    Thanks.

I like the the SVS pb12-nsd a lot but it is out of stock. Is there any where else that sells
SVS subs? Any thing else comparable?

SVS is ID only so you'll have to wait if you want one. It's worth the wait though IMO.... HSU, Epik and ED are some other options to consider

Thanks for the info. Although I'm not familiar with the brands you listed.
I would consider a used SVS pb12-nsd if anyone knows of one.

Craig, today's Cyber Monday so maybe a good used SVS will show up in the CP flea market or another site.

I'm was in the same position as you a while back. I've read some great things about the Micropros from some pretty die-hard bass fans from other forums. With this being said, I've been researching subs for a couple of months and the general consensus is the Internet Direct subs give you more bang for the buck since they're bypassing the middleman.

It seems like you're on the right track since you're considering a sealed sub, which will alleviate the "boominess," in comparison to a ported sub.

Here's some reading for you, in addition to a couple of subs I was looking at for roughly the same price:

    Epik Legend

    Rythmik F12SE
