Monitor 30s as Surrounds?

Just "completed" my budget-conscious bedroom HT setup. The plan was to use the new M40s as front, a CS2 for the center and two Bose Acoustimass arrays as the surrounds. What's happened so far is a third set of Bose arrays is being used for the center until I can get to where the CS2 is stored.

In the meantime, I've been really disappointed with the Bose arrays in all three applications (center and surrounds). Definitely the CS2 will come out this weekend - and I see Newegg is offering their Series II Monitor 30s for $82 shipped!

So, if I do this, I'll end up with 40s as the fronts, a CS2 for my center and 30s for the surrounds.

Should I expect the 30s to work well as the surrounds?

The 30's make excellent surrounds, they will blow the Bose away.

+1, I use M-30s as surrounds in my set up and they sound a lot better than Bose cubes would!

The M30s are on the way! If they come close to performing like their bigger M40 brothers have, I'll be thrilled! Especially at this price!

Newegg's continuation of this line as Monitor Series II has made a believer of me. Especially when you're building something where value is important.

    Lay on Newegg!

Actually the combo is a great bedroom set-up, I don't know how big your bedroom is but in many cases this would be overkilled but at this price point, might as well. Budget concious without neglecting the SQ. What is the subwoofer that is used in this bedroom set-up?

I ran M40's and a CS1 in my bedroom off a cheap Sony receiver and they more than filled the space with sound. You should be more than happy with that setup as it could be considered "overkill", but we all like overkill here ;)

I have one PSW111 currently hooked up and another "waiting" if needed. And in keeping with the lower budget theme, both of these were at no cost to me from Polk when I purchased other products (over the last year).

Re the size of the bedroom, not really sure. We downsized from a larger place a few years ago and my wife, who hates to get rid of anything - which may be a break for me, has this room filled. And, the ceiling is twelve feet at its highest point. So there's some volume there.

Having just purchased my first Monitor Series II (the excellent 40s) product to start this project, I've become a believer based on their peerformance. And with Newegg's aggresive pricing there's a lot of sound to be had for the dollar.

I bought a Pioneer vsx1120 and the day I got it I found the Elite vsx32 for $10 more. It's best just to not look haha.
