SDA's and Listening Position

I have had my SDA 1C's for a while now, I find if I sit dead center about 8 feet back the sound is more centered and the SDA effect not as pronounced.

But if I sit a little to either side of center the SDA effect is much more pronounced. Anyone else experienced this, I am thinking the volume of sound in the middle is somewhat overpowering the SDA effect.

Or is it just mental illness on my part?

They should form a perfect pyramid. Just cause your back eight feet means nothing if they are further apart or closer together than 8 feet.

It sounds to me like your speakers are too far apart. What you are describing sounds like a "hole" in the soundfield due to a)you being too close, or b) them being to seperated. The SDA whitepapers state that your listening distance "should be equal to, or greater than the distance between (the speakers)." So as Joe was stating, an equilateral triangle would work better, and is the closest you should be to the vertical plane of the speakers.

You and Joe were exactly right, I measured them and there is eight feet between them, nine feet from center to center. I moved the couch back and when sitting I am ten feet back and it has fixed the problem. I was way too close, they sounded good but like I said it messed up the SDA effect. I thought they sounded good before but now they sound even better. Thanks everyone for the advice.

If you have the depth, you might even try moving even a few more feet back just to see what you think.

... either side of center the SDA effect is much more pronounced. ... the SDA effect.....

    side to side (horizontal)
    up and down (vertical)
front to back ( what would one call that ? proximity ?)

will seemingly change the " SDA effect " .

Sorry, its the pain meds kicking in....

Actually more than anything I am jealous. Trying to get up to Nooshins to get my ears on a pair of SDA's myself...

Glad you got them dialed in, from what I heard its the beginning of an audio Nirvana
