Ordering my first HT system ASAP, but need some help

I have decided 100% on the CS2/CS20 center, and the monitor 70's for the front from newegg. Also ordering either the BIC H100 or the elemental design a2-300 subwoofer. All I need is to decide on the rear surrounds. I want to mount these in the ceiling behind my couch pointing down at a 45 degree-angle. What can you guys recommend? I was thinking monitor 30 but I don't know if those can mount how I want, or the omw3 or omw5. Also will these be enough for the rear having the M70's and CS2 up front?

Also this system is gonna be 100% for movies and NOT music.

TIA

Room is 15x15 roughly. Haven't bought anything yet and money is burning a hole in my pocket. I was originally looking at onkyo 608, but a buddy works at best buy and said he would check on denon 1911 or pioneer 1120  I wanna buy something asap

My first question is, would you mind buying used?

You'd be surprised how much you'd save/how much you'll get out of an AVR (and other products) if you buy used versus new.

Whatever receiver you decide to go with, make sure it has pre-amp outputs for future expansion IE external amps to power better speakers/etc.

Good choice on the center channel, some make the mistake of buying the smaller version only to find themselves upgrading to the larger CC a year later or so. The OWM's are very versatile, but if you decide with bookshelves such as the Monitor 30's you can always get a nice set of mounts such as the BT-77's from Crutchfield.

As for the sub, don't skimp on this. Your room is pretty small so you won't need anything bigger than a 12" (maybe even a 10") but I'd suggest something from SVS, Epik, or HSU.

What is a better rear the monitor 30 or the omw3. Will either of these be enough sound coming out of the rear with what I have planned up front? Or should I get something non Polk for the rears?

You rears don't have to match your fronts but monitor 30s would definitely do a great job as rear (also easily mounted on walls).

Thanks. Looks like the monitor 30's seem like a good choice and for $80 for the pair, it's worth a try

You may want to check out the Polk Direct E-bay store. They have the 70's for a decent price and no shipping cost.

Just looked and they are all refurbished plus they aren't much cheaper. I guess I'll wait for newegg to have them on sale again

Polk refurbs = just as good if not better than new! (Why better possibly? They might be broken in for you).

Plus they're affordable as heck and because you're going through Polk, you're still covered by their warranty....just sayin'

Well there's only a 2 yr warranty vs 5yr new warranty. Also they are selling for just as much if not more than what newegg was selling them for. Id buy them if they were cheaper but thyre not unfortunately

Polk's warranty/ customer service really is unparalleled Yellow. I bought some scratch and dent RTi-10's a few years ago, and Polk CS replaced a cracked port on the back of the speaker immediately. This was after I had emailed looking to buy the replacement part. The response I got was "what is your mailing address so we can get this out to you ASAP."

    Blew my mind.

So I would most definitely buy refurbs from Polk with confidence!

    Good to know. Thanks.

Also here is what I'm working with.

My house is pre-wired for a surround system and if you look at the second pic there are 3 of those plugs in the ceiling. Does that mean I can put 3 speakers back there for surround? Would that be good or bad?

The wires up there may not be the best and I wouldn't personaly put speakers up high unless for dolby 2z height effects . You dont need 2z if your not running below 100" screen

I had a full polk rti setup with fxi surrounds and I really regret selling . I now own high end martin logan speakers but the polk rti sounded awesome even when powerd by really crappy audio equipment . Stay away from the monitor series ,rti is best .Dont buy lsi unless you have alot of power

Start your system off with an onkyo receiver 7 series and above ie 705 706 707 ..... so you have pre outs and room correction the buy a csi5 and rti6 then fxi3 then the towers ... rti8 or if you plan on adding an amp later rti10 or the big **** rti12 .......add 2 psw 505's and you have done it http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101116

I just ordered the speakers from JR. They matched neweggs price for the monitor 70 (although newegg was cherry finish and I wanted black) of $162 and also the $80 for the pair of monitor 30's for surround. Also got the CS20 center. Just gotta decide on the receiver onkyo 708, denon 1911, or pioneer 1120 and the subwoofer either BIC h100, ED a2-300, or something from hsu. Thanks for the help guys

Sweet deal, you will be fine with the M series. The Rti maybe a little better for HT purpose but not too shabby for music and you pay more too. The Monitor series is the next best solution to the more expensive Tsi (roughly same gut I believe with a slightly less easthetic look). Some people would rather invest in good looks while other prefers investing in actual sound efficiency.

You mena the Onkio 708, right? Personally I'd pick Pioneer over Onkio any day (nothing particular about Onkio, simple preference).
