Only one thread is necessary for your question. multiple threads of the same thing just makes it difficult to keep conversations coherent, as well as clutters the forum.

But welcome to Club Polk :)
There are a lot of super knowledgeable people here and a great wellspring of audio knowledge. Good luck on your new HT hunt.

They both sound about the same, but the Monitor 70's are cheaper so I would say go with them.....

Correction, not cheaper but rather a better bang for the buck

lol....cheaper as in price, not as in quality...

From what i have read, they are pretty damn close.. I have the 500s cause i got a smoking deal on them, and have nothing bad to say about them. Don't know i've heard anything bad about the 70s either.

For the money it sounds like the 70s are a better deal, and cause of that you don't seem to see as many reviews and opinions on the 500s.

Don't get us wrong, the Tsi are just as great speakers as the M series and IMO better looking. The only difference is pricing and the main reason is they are vintage when you look at Polk's description of them. Personnally, I always tend to look at deals from past series, vintage or obsolete lines as they will provide the best bang for the buck in most instances. That is exactly what the monitor series is all about while TSis are still on the board as current products.

There is a minor design difference--the TSI has a bass port on the bottom and the Monitors have the port on the front. There could be a slight difference in the bass sound depending on what type of surface you have under a bottom ported speaker.

It also looks like they changed the crossover from the Cascade crossover in the Monitor 70's to a "normal" crossover in the TSi 500's...

The Cascade crossover gave the Monitor 70's a much more connected feel and made them sound far more natural to me that the 500's.

Money aside, I prefer the Monitor 70's by a long shot.

Good info! Always wondered about this, heard there was a difference just never stumbled across what that difference was. Is there anyone out there that has upgraded the XO in the TSIs? (not trying to hijack, any links and i'll gladly read up on it)
