MW 6500's

I'm looking for a pair of 6500's and have a curiosity question to boot.
I just purchased a set of 10a's (peerless tweets) in great condition with no issues other than a couple of cosmetics that bother me. I have 3 6500's that have the gaskets and one that doesn't (like the newer 6503's you see the rubber surround edge). The gasketed ones are 1980 and the other is 1982. Wouldn't expect parameters to be any different. One must have been replaced for whatever reason and they had changed over to no gasket. So what I want is a pair of 6500's with the gaskets (I'll take one obviously.... just looking for a spare also). Anyone seen a 6500 without the gasket before? Like to pick up a spare peerless also at some point. Mine have the "hole". From I've been reading it sounds like the original peerless didn't? I did epoxy all the magnets as soon as I got them home. Cabinets are in great condition but have heard they leak over time. Is this is true, should I do some preventive calking or anything? Where do they leak? Wood seams?Anyways, my post has probably gotten out of hand but I'm new to the polk forums. Also have a set of monitor 5's and I see they have 6502's in them (and I allready know these are different from hours looking around the forums). Thanks greatly in advance.

lmueller1 welcome to Club Polk. Congratulations on the new speakers. I also have a set like this that I purchased two months ago.
There is a lot of information in the Vintage Speaker forums. Use the search engine and go to advanced. Select the Vintage section to search and type in Monitor 10 for one search. Then do another search for Rings. Do another search for crossover.
You will find a wealth of information on different upgrades and tweaks for your new speakers.
From my reading the crossover upgrades have the most impact. Your timing is good as http://www.soniccraft.com/news.htm has a sale going on now through the end of the month on all the supplies that are needed for the upgrade. They do this about twice a year from what I have seen, so making a rather quick decision will be in your favor. 20% off right now!
The air leakage issue is usually from around the drivers. There are several tweaks but a forum member sells a modification part called rings to get a better seal than on the MDF.
Post other questions in the Vintage Speaker Forum. Good luck and again welcome aboard . -
welcome to Club Polk.
just wanted to suggest
that you could also use other type of sealants materials
instead of the gaskets.
good luck on your search for the drivers. -
lee, called and left message (price is fine with me). Can't do PM yet.... I better start posting more.....
I have normal gasketing material from parts express (comes in a roll) so that shouldn't be an issue. I'll take care of it as soon as I get the other 6500's. Thanks for the replies. Pete -
