First 5.1 in this room? Dipole?

I've been lurking on a few of these audio forums for a while and this is my first post. I just bought my polks last week and they are a HUGE upgrade from my previous setup (2.0)

My question is that I want to have 5.1 sound but my seating area is won't allow speakers next to them, i've looked into dipole speakers as a solution but I'm not sure if they would be better than regular bookshelves, which I haven't picked out yet. I'm worried that the sound will bounce off the door with a dipole on the left and won't reach the couch. The room is small about 11x12 with 1ft l shape for the door junction (exaggerated a little on the doorway in diagram:rolleyes:) I can't move the seating forward because of limited space that the diagram doesn't show and i'd be kinda too close to the tv.
thanks for any help

You could mount dipole speakers on the wall behind the couch, or maybe a pair of Polk OWM speakers...they have several mounting options and sound very good for their size.

What if you 'rotate' your arrangement 90' clockwise?
The sofa will very slightly be closer to the screen, but you'll have more space on the right\left of it for surrounds..?

well behind the sub is a door leading to a back porch, on the left of the room is a closet door and the far right of the room is a window so this is the only way I can have it set, I wish I could rotate it but the room prevents it, I have to move the sub whenever I want to open the porch door :(

Based on what I have read so far about the owm speakers, the owm-5 would be better with an omnimount 10.0 w/c. These are what I am thinking about for my extra surround speakers.

I have been in a similar situation in the past. My first time setting up 5 channel (Dolby pro logic) was a room much the same size. I used a pair of RT/FX speakers about 5 foot above the ground and on the wall behind the sofa. You will probably want to give at least 18 inches from the side wall. I think I had a little more room than you and put them just inside each arms of the sofa. This has been the best situation I have found for bipole/dipole. Di/Bi speakers seem to have a good resale and sell for about 50% more than comparable bookshelf speakers used. You could look for some FXi30's they should work well, or if you want o get something on the cheap the older RT/FX's only sell for about $70. I believe early versions had soft dome tweeters and later Trilaminate, you would want the soft dome.

Good luck, I think some Di/Bi will be worth while in your situation.
