linking AVR'S together for added power

(I'm not sure if this will work) I have an older HK AVR 510, 2001 and a new HK AVR 1600 2010. Can I link these together to boost 1600 as it only has 50 watts per channel.

not too good an idea. You could get one of those converters that allow speaker outputs to be connected to inputs (on the second receiver) but even then it increases the distortion dramatically. I tried it once upon a time and could not stand the distortion/ hum for 2 seconds. Plus you run the risk of frying either one of the Receivers or your speakers. REALLY not worth that.

Take the money you just saved BY NOT FRYING YOUR EQUIPMENT and put it towards a decent amp.

    That's my 2 cents worth. :D

Do you find the HK lacking in power, or is the wattage numbers displeasing. Sell both and get a more powerful receiver. If the 1600 has pre outs you can just get an amp.

OK so I won't try that, And as for power my ears don't bleed when I max it out but it still pretty sweet. I new to this audio game and just trying to figure out how I can some use some of this equipment sitting around the basement.

Thanks for the info folks, Off to see Harry Potter with the kids

Your 1600 doesn't have pre-outs, so I'd recommend getting a more powerful receiver with pre-outs so in the future you can add an amp if you choose.
